Improve Your Chess Calculation: The Ramesh Chess Course - Volume 1
J***
An excellent training guide in developing chess calculation skills.
This excellent book came highly recommended by chess coach Andras Toth - an Australian International Chess Master and trainer. The content of the book is very stretching and so might best be used by - or with a trainer. It requires a very disciplined approach to the resolution of its training material contained within (for example - sitting with an actual chess board and pieces and formulating solutions without moving the pieces - just as in a real game). Good for anyone with real ambition to progress in chess but a tough for the casual player.

i likes the structure of this book but it is for players above my level....

Does the job
The only thing that I think requires improvement is that the solution is too close to the diagrams. Other than that is very good book. I find it a bit difficult to use it on your own unless you're probably very high rated. I'm around 1.8 blitz , 2k rapid and some of them are just too advanced. But I enjoy struggling.

Good content
I like the content of the book however its very difficult to avoid the answers while reading the book. Some more thought into the layout to avoid this would have improved the book.

Not useful for me
The analysis is often non-existent or very poorly explained. It will for example show you a position where white is losing a piece, and claim white is doing well with no explanation why. I am rated 2100 on chess.com and left confused and frustrated. To understand these positions I guess I could put them all into a computer and get some analysis that way - but that is a very long and irritating process if you need to do to check every line. This would have been way better with some clear evaluations and explanations of the positions rather than just leaving it to the reader to figure it it.

Excellent book!
I've been playing chess about a year, I'm an adult improver, and felt I've not been getting better. But, now that I have this book outlining the thought process of moves and calculating, I feel empowered greatly that as I read this, it'll assimilate into my thoughts during games, and help me win. It feels like a weapon that I'm so glad I found. I will say, that it required some getting used to, an genuine effort to read the variations. But, that initial hurdle once conquered in myself, I found that I was greatly enjoying my time with this lovely book. I'd like to thank RB Ramesh for writing it, and as the text indicates at various times that "this will be covered further in future books." Well for me, I look forward to any book by RB Ramesh, and will buy as many as he puts out, I mean I've got stacks of chess books already, but I'm really excited about this book, and I know it'll help me, proportionally to the time, energy, and effort I put into it. Thank you New in Chess! Love you guys!PS I initially didn't like the book, like afore mentioned, it takes some effort to read the variations, but I'm already seeing that I can just read the variations without putting all the pieces on the board, just visualizing the position after the moves. So I wanted to tell you that if you that, when you get it, put in some work, and I know you'll love the book like I do!
