My mechanic wants one now
The media could not be loaded. I have been teaching myself to work on my own vehicle for a while now. Youtube and online forums have saved me thousands of dollars by enabling me to diagnose and repair things myself. This tool just gave me the ability to take it to the next level.I do not know enough about vehicles to benefit from half the features and information this provides. But if there is information I need, I now have the ability to get it.I have to mention, there is a much cheaper option of a little OBD-2 scanner that you plug into your car and connect to an app on your phone by Bluetooth. That one cost me about $20 a few years ago. It can be troublesome to get the right app or get the unit connected. And it is small so it is easy to loose if you are prone to loosing things. But you should know there are cheaper options if all you want to do is pull a code for a check engine light. But when it comes to getting all the information you need to diagnose a problem, I think this scanner is about as good as it gets.I showed it to my mechanic and he immediately plugged it in and tried it out. After using it he said he had to get himself one. I think that is as much of a five star review as anything.I just tried it out on my 99 Honda CRV. It did not automatically load my VIN and information. But I just entered the VIN manually and it set up the rest of the info just fine. There are several ways to get started. Some of them faster than others. I'm definitely still getting used to it. It pulled the codes I needed, gave me the meaning of the codes, AND gave me possible reasons for those codes. I have a starting point now to try to save my car and save me a lot of money. The plug in for my Honda is on the passenger side and the cord was plenty long enough for me to still sit in the driver's seat and operate it comfortably. When I needed to turn the ignition or engine on or off, the unit told me. That was especially nice for this novice who didn't read the directions first. It does take a little getting used to knowing which button to press and it is not always intuitive. But the unit has directions on what to press for "ok" or "back" usually so I navigated it with very little problem. For someone more familiar with tools like these I imagine they probably wouldn't give it a second thought.I would not recommend shelling out all the money for this if you need to pull codes for a check engine light once. But if you want to handle your own vehicle repairs, this is a great tool to have.

Excellent OBDII scanner that works very well with all cars I have. Lots of features and easy to use!
The media could not be loaded. I'm doing most of my car work myself unless it's something requiring special equipment I don't have. So, the OBDII scanner for me is an essential tool. There are much cheaper options out there and I was using myself a $20 USB adapter connected to my laptop running OBDII software and this was sufficient so far for my needs. I was staying away from such all-in-one consumer grade OBDII readers as the ones I tried were very limited in supported code readings, not reliable, and didn't have live graphs. Note, I strongly do not recommend using various phone apps with BT adapters as they give you very limited and unreliable information. But having a laptop with you all the time when you need to pull the code is cumbersome and not practical at all, so I decided to give an all-in-one OBDII scanner another try, especially this one that has an impressive list of features. I just tried it out on my Subaru WRX and Porsche Boxster. It didn't automatically recognize the cars and VINs but once I punched in the VIN by hand the scanner did the rest of the setup and everything else was good to go.The scanner itself is very well made. It has a rugged body that will withstand heavy use and abuse. All buttons have positive feedback and are large enough to operate when in a mechanic's gloves. The body has rubberized and textured left and right sides plus dot-textured square areas at the back where you have your fingers when holding the device in your hands to improve grip and accommodate on-hand operations. The LCD display is a large 4.3" color screen and easy to read even under the bright sun. It has a long cable for plugging it into your OBDII port in the car's cabin and pulling it all the way to the engine compartment so you can operate the scanner while working on the engine.Operation with the scanner is fairly straightforward, easy and intuitive, it basically walks you through what and when to do. When you read the codes and there are errors, it gives you the code's description and explanation and what's most important, it gives possible cause for those codes. The scanner will tell you when you need to turn the ignition on or off for reading codes as well. While it's not so important for me, it's especially useful for a novice who doesn't know much about cars and fixing them. This scanner has the ability to scan error codes and to reset codes! What's most important for me is that it has live data as well, which means I don't need my bulky laptop for reading live data. On top of that it's capable of printing your scan results when connected to a PC with a printer. Also, it has 4 service functions - ABS/SRS, transmission, airbag, check engine. On top of all this it can even run an I/M readiness test letting you determine if your car will pass a smog check test or not, an awesome feature!Bottom line: Overall it's a great OBDII scanner for the price and I do recommend this OBDII scanner if you handle your own vehicle repairs, this is a must have tool in your garage. If you just want to check error codes and bring your car to a mechanic, then a cheaper option might be a better choice for you. If you are a hardcore car mechanic and/or doing professional car work, you might want to invest in a higher-end model that can perform full car service. For me personally this model is perfect.Pros:1) Very well made, rugged body.2) Fairly easy to use with a large display.3) Supports lots of car brands and models.4) Can read a lot of OBDII information.5) Supports live data reading!5) Gives detailed description and explanation of codes.6) Has 4 service functions.7) Free firmware updates for life!Cons:1) Sometimes it is slow and sort of "hangs".2) Doesn't have the Maintenance option.3) Doesn't support MacOS for updates and printing.UPDATE 6/5/2022: I was able to reset the airbag warning light on my Porsche Boxster with this OBDII scanner!!! No other OBDII scanner could do it and I was told that I needed to bring the car to a dealer or buy a specialized professional Porsche specific diagnostic tool to do it but no, this awesome Romondes scanner did it! Watch the video, it worked. Awesome tool!!!

Cost effective choice at the time of this review.
I’ve actually tried the higher versions of Romondes after trying this one, and to be honest, I would recommend you spend a bit more for a higher priced, newer , better version if you can.But if you don’t really want to spend too much money at all, this one will do the trick (and also might save quite a bit of money by saving your trips to the shop). One of the best about these types of scanners is that you don’t need to be an expert. Although it does take time to go through step by step to learn/see how to take advantage of everything the scanner has to offer. For example, from the first screen, you can choose whatever you want to do among options of 1. Viewing history (you won’t have it if it’s your first time using the scanner), 2. checking vin number, 3. scanning your car (this probably is a good place to start), 4. diagnostics, 5. settings, 6. data manager, and 7. update. Now when I clicked the ‘scan’ it only took several seconds for it to show the vehicle status which showed no codes were found. Obviously, if there were problems with your vehicle, your status page will show something different I assume. Then I moved onto the diagnostic, where you can choose where the vehicles are from among America, Asia, China, and Europe. There you can pick your manufacturer and the year, leading to the vehicle details of your car. My point is that as long as you are willing to invest a bit of time on learning the scanner, it will be quite useful tool. I can go on and on. But if you don’t have any scanners, and you don’t want to save money by spending just a bit, this scanner could be a definitely decent choice!
