Lots of vicarious travel (and culinary) experiences.
Well written. Easy to read- broken up into places she visited and experiences she had.

Another great book by a great writer
All of Alice Steinbach's books are wonderful, and this is no exception. If you love memoirs, travel, and experiencing adventure through another person's words, you will like this book.

A lot of reservation.....
Well, I think taking that writing course in Prague affected Madame Steinbach's ability to tell an engaging story! This book was SOOO boring! I cracked up laughing reading another reviewer's comment that the "shepherding" chapter was more boring than the garden one because I had the same impression. I didn't even finish the last chapter. Maybe I should have, it could have helped my insomnia. Frankly, the relationship with Naruhiro makes my skin crawl. The way she writes about this man is not appealing at all.And if she asked one more person in a non-Anglo-Saxon country if they were inspired by an American or English artist, writer, gardener, etc., I thought I would scream. How horribly insulting to other cultures. But that is so American - everything in the world must revolve around them these days. And I know, I am one but thankfully don't live there anymore.

Boring beyond words
I loved Alice Steinbach's first work, "No Reservations." I could hardly put it down, underlined so many lines, paragraphs and bits of universal wisdom. So, with great eagerness I purchased her second work.To express the disappointment in reading this is difficult. There are little to no observations or wisdom to ponder on the human condition. Her classes abroad are boring, inane and so difficult to plow through. I've tried finishing this book for 3 months and view it as I did when, as a child, I was forced to take "just one bite" of liver to be free and enjoy the rest of my dinner.Save your time. There are so many other wonderful writers to sample. Still, it's disheartening to think Steinbach is a one-book-writer. I loved "No Reservations". I loathe "Educating Alice...".

Getting the most out of travel
I enjoyed this account of travel with a purpose. The author has given us a great example of how to truly enjoy travel. It's not just about the sigthts but the people we meet and the subjects we learn along the way. Well written, humourous and yet insightful. Well worth the read.

Steinbach is a good author
I love to know other people enjoy traveling to different countries to meet the wonderful natives, to learn the local customs and food, and just to enjoy traveling. Nothing broadens the mind and spirit like traveling.

TRAVEL AND YOU WILL LEARN.
As a fan of her first book "Without Reservations" I enjoyed this book very much. Alice Steinbach travels to different parts of the world to expand her knowledge and her skills. The reader tags along to her diversified destinations from taking lessons at the Ritz cooking school in Paris to immersing herself in the world of Jane Austen in England. Ms. Steinbech adds new meaning to learning from one's travels. I highly recommend both of her books and look forward to many more.
