great for a 11 year old tom boy (girl)
I ordered this product for a Christmas gift for my 11 year old niece. She is picky about gifts. She got this gift and it was being put together the next day... I think she thoroughly enjoyed it. it was just as i have seen on CSI before when they try to do skeletal reformation. I would recommend it.

Briefly captured pre-teen attention, could be better
This kit is okay, but there is opportunity to improve it. For example, there is a printed booklet that comes with the kit that provides cases (short whodunit scenarios) and guidelines on what's needed to solve them (...for this, you'll need the fingerprint items and..). It comes with all the necessary things to 'solve' each and follows basic CSI techniques - fingerprinting, bite impressions, tread impressions, etc.What would be more impactful is making this multimedia - part 39 Clues, part Scene It, maybe. Go to a website to compete with other CSI detectives or to get more cases...or watch the DVD scenario and then....My son was into it for about 2 hours, during which he solved three of the cases. It's kind of one-trick pony...once solved or you figure out the mechanics of solving, you're kind of over it. He hasn't picked it up since.

Fun for kids
My students loved using this kit. It gave them an idea of what it would really be like to take impressions. We were able to use it to make other projects and it was a really great addition to our class.

Meh
The activity book and other pieces were missing. I ordered it for an end of school year project early and left it unopened too long to return it, otherwise I would have sent it back. Looks like it would have been a great activity for the kids if I knew what could be done with it or even how to mix the plaster.

the csi impression kit is a fun kit
this kit was fun to do. it had a lot of neat activies that were fun to figure out. just the thing for hands with nothing to do.

Excellent review
This is fascinating for the kids to actually get to do. There is a booklet to go along with it to figure out the crime cases.
