Shania Twain - Up Close And Personal

This show is SHOUTING out for better quality audio and video release
This show is great! But the original performance MUST have been filmed or recorded in higher quality video than the 720X480 resolution of the DVD standard. I would certainly pay top dollar for a new release that better shows off the quality of the original master video and audio. Sure, it's 4:3 aspect ratio and the master may not even tax a Bluray disc. But it's BOUND to be better than what we have now.

Shania is GREAT but this DVD isn't
I loved the intimacy of Shania's show on this DVD. And I really loved hearing her with Allison Krauss & Union Station--it really was a back to her roots thing for Shania. I really like to hear her more "country" and she definitely was in this performance. And as always Shania really tries to spotlight others, etc. But her voice is just incredible and you can really hear it in this not-so-amped-up performance and it kind of overshadows--which is a good thing. What I didn't like was the [sound] recording. Initially I had it on 5.1 (I have a pretty nice home theater system) and was surprised at how poor it sounded. Yes I am spoiled, but I expected more. I had to back it down to 2.0 stereo for it to sound halfay decent. That's the reason I rated it only 4 stars. It was also a little "short" too. I wish she'd have done a couple extra encore songs. The extras on the DVD were good too. Shows a lot of Shania in the pre-concert mode. Always a classy woman. Thanks Shania.

Great video! Worth the money hands down!
One of her best performances. The fact that Alison Krauss and Union Station performed as her band, made it even sweeter! Her talent and ability to perform with other artist is amazing. Watch the behind the scenes footage as well.

Only For Die Hard Fans
Shania's attempts to cash in on bluegrass and to try and raise her status as a "serious" artist backfired on this concert. Its now clear to me why her songs are over-produced because without it her songs will be nothing. It appears to me, her husband knows he has to masked her voice with other sounds and production tricks because simply singing against simple instruments will not work for Shania. I think the songs would flow better if Shania wrote more serious songs...who wants to hear a song like 'In My Car' in an intimate manner? Songs like that are meant to have a fun sound, so most of the material for this concert should have come from her "The Woman In Me" album.IMO, Shania sounds dull and flat on this DVD. She sounds like someone is holding her nose while she is singing and this is very clear when you hear her TRY and sing AC/DC classic "Shook Me All Night Long". I guess Shania wanted to pay tribute to her husband who produced the classic 80s song for the band but Shania's vocals are VERY limited and that song actually exposed her. Another thing about his performance is she seems a little bored (lacks any spark) in her performance, even though she talked a bit about the songs during her show. The saving grace on this DVD is Alison Krauss who naturally has an appealing and warm voice. The arrangement of the music by Union Station is wonderfully done that there is no need for a singer. I respect the fact that Shania is sharing the spotlight with AK and US, but they actually made Shania performance without taking the show away from her.I don't think this DVD did what Shania wanted it to do for her (show her a serious artist and as a real country artist). By that time, it became clear to all she has lost alot of country fans and her most of her pop fans didn't clamor for her new materials either. You can't recycle materials and then expect people to support you. This DVD is not that popular outside of Shania die-hard fans and there are many reasons why. Someone wrote this DVD will be a proud moment for Shania...I think most people will forget this performance...its not significant.

This is what music is all about!
AKUS and Shanaia Twain really are a match made in heaven.Even if you don't like the genre, you can't diss the musical workmanship. You won't find a more musical backing for Shanaia's songs than with Alison Krauss& Union Station. The presentation on this DVD is even better than what was originally put outon CD.Every member of Union Station is there for a reason. Alison with her soft spoken appearance and hergreat sense of humour. Jerry Douglas on dobro, Ron Block, Dan Tyminski and Barry Bales on bass aremusicians out of this world. You owe it to your children to expose them to this DVD.If you are a true American, this should be a must in your musical DVD collection.

Real musicianship
Every song (all written by Shania and her husband) on this DVD is undeniably catchy, but I admit I bought it solely because Alison Krauss and Union Station were the back up band. I kept wondering how this bluegrass oriented band was going to pull off her up tempo pop hits, but they deliver every time in spades. They are consumate, and incredibly generous, musicians, letting Shania be the star, but adding their unique touch and bringing each song to another level. As she said herself, they make her look good. That being said, Shania proves that she can keep up with the "big boys" in terms of musicianship, and that she deserves her success.

Shania is breathtaking here in this DVD!
Finally got my hand on this DVD (got to order from Amazon and shipped it over to KL, Malaysia). And boy am I glad to say that I am a proud owner of this DVD. So use to seeing her in big concerts (I have Chicago and Live DVDs), this is a welcome change. I love the interviews in this video which the other DVDs don't. But most of all, I just love her performance here. Though at times I thought she sounds like she was having a running nose, she just don't stop giving her best to her fans. Simply beautiful :)

This is Brilliant!
You must buy this if you are a Shania fan! I only wish you could get these tracks in this style on CD too. I have watched it about 20 times since Christmas as I love to hear these tracks in a more country n western style. Shania is spot on live and I was deeply impressed with the Union Station backing her up on this DVD. Tracks like 'I ain't goin down', 'I'm holding on to save my life', 'In my Car', 'Forever and for Always', 'Whose Bed have your Boots been under', and a grand finale of ACDC's 'You Shook me all Night' is just a taster of this fantastic DVD. Buy it today.

Boy can this woman sing...
I'm a massive Shania fan but I will admit that on first viewing I wasn't too sure about this DVD. Then when I watched it again, I realised this show was absolute magic. Being so used to her big stadium shows this was utterly different and that is its beauty. As you watch and listen you realise that a) Shania writes fantastic music and b) she has an amazing voice. Alison Krauss and Union Station provide fantastic support and enable Shania to give her music this different feel. Crowning moment is seeing Shania perform 'You Shook Me All Night Long' - is there anything Shania can't do? This DVD is a must for all Shania fans.

Great show - songs better than the record - backing band awesome!
I have been a fan of Shania since I was young and really like Come On Over. I saw a clip this and bought it straight away. I think Alison Krauss and Union Station as a backing band make this an incredible show and it is a shame they only did it once. The songs from Up! really come to life on this DVD better than the record.

Shania's best DVD so far
Although I'm not a Shania fan I must admit that this DVD is by far thebest compared to the other ones I have. While the "UP" DVD was great aswell, the yelling and screaming + the too loud back-up music and theheavy rock trends were eliminated here and we can listen to the same songsvery well interpreted in an easy way showing that Shania can sing.Besides, there's a much more country like approach to these songs thanksto the wonderful back-up group Alicia Kraus & Union Station. I likedShania when she started out as a C&W artist but like so many otherC&W singers she "crossed over" which can be acceptable but this cross-over turned out to be a too much high percentage of heavy pop music. This set-up, however, is wonderful (it indeed has some similarity withthe come-back special of Elvis in 1968) with a "normal" clappingaudience which makes listening to music more enjoyable for all of usand this is MUSIC with capitol letters!
