First Aid for the Match, Fifth Edition (First Aid Series)

I bought this product and really love it. It was good for all aspects of the match compared to the other books that I tried. The price is pretty good and like other first aid books, it explains everything in simple plain english that is not confusing or way too wordy. It has great features for the interview process. It has a section that gives practice questions. that program directors and residents actually asked. This was the most useful book that you will use during the interview process.I honestly used to fly around with this book before an interview and it got me to look awesome on interview day. I had all the answers that I needed from this book. This is also really good for personal statements too but don't copy them word for word because it will look terrible and obvious. Either way, the product is great and a buy that will benefit all who use it.

I really liked this book for guiding through my fourth year of medical school and the match process. it's short, concise, and easy to read, unlike other "novel like" match books :-). Everything in the book is pretty accurate, except for the description of the SOAP process which is wrong just because it was updated after the book came out...hopefully the next edition will have the right info. Also I think a couple approaches are not the best...first the book says to only tell your number 1 ranking school that you'll be ranking it one. But what my school says which I agree with, is to let your top few schools know that you're highly interested during ranking time, but don't give a specific rank. Also I don't like that for the interview thank you letter section, it says you can tell a lot of schools you will rank them highly...I think a better way to phrase it is you'll consider the program deeply...because usually during interview time, you don't know how you're going to rank the school yet, and you're really not being truthful if you say you're going to rank all the schools highly. Other than that, the info is great!

This book has some good tips but the main issue I have is it very old in terms how things have changed in the Match. To Tao Le the author: How hard would it be to update your books with relevant information that is not going on 10 years old?I would skip this book and look for a newer book that is only a few years old max or buy a used one for $ instead of new for $$$$

Good for match and great tips in there

Overall, this is a decent book to add to your collection with fairly generic tips on how to deal with rank lists, a packing list with advice for traveling, as well as some worksheets on how to organize all the various programs. I also appreciated all the different templates and sample essays that the book contained, along with advice pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of each essay. There's also a chapter with essays for different specialties as well.The problem with this book is that they've disabled Kindle lending, which doesn't make sense to me. I've purchased the Kindle title, and would like to loan it to a friend, but the onerous Digital Restrictions Management lockdown on a title I've already purchased a license to makes me rate this title lower.It's a shame. It's a good book otherwise.

Pros: a lot of match specific info, and advice on how to prepare for the MatchCons: very wordy, price, some of the info is outdated especially with regards to SOAPI also purchased a "red book" about the match which I think does a better job at providing evidence based information about what is most important to help you successfully match into your specialty of choice.
