The New Testament In Syriac

It'll Do in a Pinch
I write this review as a student of Syriac. This is by far the most affordable Syriac translation I could find quickly on Amazon... and you tend to get what you pay for. That being said (I think another reviewer spoke to this) the text is copied from 19th-early 20th century edition. As with all such records, the text is inky and blurry--which makes particularly difficult reading for a pointed Semitic alphabet.--That's another thing--Syriac makes use of several alphabets (and I couldn't find anyone who specified this) so be it known that this book uses the WESTERN alphabet, not Estrangela or the Eastern. Also, the book looked like it had spent some time in humid place--It was a little warpy and wouldn't lay flat right out of the package--don't know whether they're all like that, but this one is: see my picture. So again, blurry, but usable, and the similarities between characters in Western script adds to the challenge. However, I believe this to be a navigable book, and I would, with all those caveats, still recommend it for the price.

Clear as a bell
This replaces my worn hardback copy of the 1919 edition, which I have been using for forty-something years now. The font in this paperback is every bit as sharp and clear as the hardback edition, if not moreso. If you are looking for a copy of the Peshitta NT, buy this without hesitation. Great price. Glad it's still in print.

Unfortunately this is not a very good product. The shipping and everything was fine
Unfortunately this is not a very good product. The shipping and everything was fine, nothing wrong with the service, but the book quality is not the best. The print quality of the text is not very good (sometimes hard to read) and the order of the books goes from left to right (as opposed to right to left as a Syriac Bible should be).Edit: Changed my rating from 1 stars to 2 stars: Now that I have more experience reading Syriac the print quality is not that bad, but it is not outstanding either. The letters and vowels are not as sharp as they could be.

Print problems
I have used this text for many years. The print and paper are both of lower quality making distinction of vowel pointing compounded by eye strain Of the small font size. Additionally, this text is composed in the Serta script which is much younger than the text itself and far less elegant than Estrangela or Eastern Nestorian scripts. The price is too high for the quality in my opinion.

I think this is a really good translation of the Peshitta Text of the New Testament ...
I think this is a really good translation of the Peshitta Text of the New Testament in Syriac-Aramaic. The simple Syriac-Aramaic literal text, with the really short, down to earth, introductory preface to the manuscript makes for an easy-to-read literal version of the Peshitta New Testament for those who study Syriac-Aramaic or amateur Scripturalists like myself, who are into tapping into the very richness of the Original Ancient Language, that Jesus and His Apostles spoke, taught, and written the New Testament in for the first, true, original manuscripts and text. I give it a full 5-star rating for these very reasons that I give in this review.

Pointed text is helpful and relatively easy to read
Wish there could be at least some hint of a critical apparatus on this. I ended up buying this because other versions were unavailable or too expensive. Pointed text is helpful and relatively easy to read. Basically what you get is the text and that's it

it is useful for the student of Syriac
The quality of the reproduction is not what I had expected. It is somewhat blurry, making it hard to distinguish diacritical signs, as well as being unpleasant to read. Still, it is useful for the student of Syriac. There is a more modern reproduction at:http://www.tertullian.org/rpearse/RightToLeft_Syriac/pdf/peshittapdf.htmlin pdf, even though some signs are misprinted. So the pdf files above, along with this book, would be of help to the student.
