Tales from the Crypt meet your competition!!
I bought this book with only one story in mind. The tale of Jillybean in the undead world. I fell in love with this character from Mr Meredith's novels of the Apocalypse Crusade. And as always I wasn't disappointed. As I was reading these short stories I admired the fact that the author put in his own experiences with the supernatural world and while he could have embellished a little he didn't. One of my favorite ones was the tale about a pen. While that may seem so plain trust me the story is anything but!! This collection of tales left me on the edge of my seat. Truly masterful work that packs a punch. One thing I didn't like. And it has nothing to do with the stories; is the way the book is set up. The titles are in bold print then under is the title of the chapter in bold print then the story starts. In some when you come to the conclusion it states the end, in some the author writes a diatribe at the end on why he wrote the story; and in others it just launches right into the next with no warning that you've just come to the end of the one you were reading, and as the bold of the titles and chapters all look the same it was sometimes a little confusing. Other than that I would say this is some of the best horror short stories I've come across. And would recommend it to anyone looking for a subtle; creepy scare!

However I did enjoy this book
I'm not usually a fan of horror stories, especially in the short story format because you don't have time to care for the characters. However I did enjoy this book. I found the lengthier the story was the more invested I became and the more I enjoyed it. The first two stories had a nice mystery aura to then which I enjoyed, and The Pen took a simple, and somewhat ridiculous, concept and turned it into an engaging, suspenseful story. Jillybean In The Undead World was main attraction for me, and it did not disappoint. It was another fantastic and tense adventure featuring one of my favorite characters, and it ties into the main Undead World story quite nicely.

Bought this because it's related to series that has TOTALLY GRABBED ME!
Bought this for the Jilly Bean story. I've been reading Peter Meredith's Apocalypse Undead World Series, and this story is a prequel for the next book. I was not excited when my 20-something son recommended this "zombie series," but have to admit: I am TOTALLY HOOKED! It is great escape fiction, yet still realistically believable in a weird sort of way. You really get to know the characters, with so many books in the series. I love that I've had so many books to travel through! I am so glad my son found this series! It's the first series since Diana Gabaldon's that has captured my fancy in a similar, but quirky way! I am an eclectic reader, and normally read best-sellers, and anything by best-selling authors like Clancy, Grisham, Baldacci, etc. My taste is eclectic, but I would never have chosen zombie fiction on my own! I have listened to the entire series on Audible. I highly recommend it!

Not what I had hoped fir
Ok. Short story anthology. Overall good not great. There Jellybean story....Not sure why the invincibility of the undead changed. Perhaps just for this story.....The Pen, didn't love it. My favorite was the married couple and the sock drawer.

If you want to sleep well
Don't read this book or you might be up late trying to finish it before you fall sleep or you might be too scared to close your eyes. I highly recommend anything by Peter Meredith even though he causes me to be sleep deprived

Great creepy collection of short stories
I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. As a fan of the Undead World series, I really wanted to read this book to see what happened to Jillybean and the author didn't disappoint. I wasn't expecting to like the other stories as much but I did, especially the first story in the book. It was truly horrifying and gruesome, my kind of story for sure.

Bravo...
Peter Meredith has done it again! All of the stories in this collection are gripping and exciting til the end.To the critics who were upset about the character Jenn: Get a grip, its a fictional character. If you are weak enough in your values as a feminist to let a fictional character get you that upset, you don't deserve to be a part of such a movement. Don't take it out on an author who is merely doing what he enjoys (and who is very good at what he does)! To the lovers/followers of Jillybean: You HAVE TO read this. It will sooth your soul in your want for something good to happen for her!Thank Mr. Meredith!

Scary stories by a master storyteller
I'm not sure I love it, but this is some scary stuff. Reminds me of the torture I endured when staying up all night to finish Stephen King novels in junior high. I bought this to read about Jillybean and I'm halfway through the stories and although nothing about her yet, I'm scared outta my pants when reading this at night. I'm a 49 year old. Seriously, I'm scared. Good stuff.

Superb
I finished book 7 of the undead series and saw at the back that peter had written a short story about the character of jillybean. This was the main reason I got tales from the butcher's block and I was going to go straight to her story but I didn't and I read the stories in order and I'm glad I did. The best was saved until last but the other stories were superb. Even though they were short I got dragged into them straight away. I wonder if we will ever see jillybean again?

Great collection up there with The Bachman books!
I ordered this as I'd heard there was a story with Jillybean (from the Undead World series) in it. Thoroughly enjoyed all the short stories throughout the book.
