Book on yoga for beginners
This is not a bad book on yoga for beginners. It should be included in the title or at least in the description. Instead it says that it can be useful no matter your level of yoga familiarity. This is wrong! I've read some positive reviews saying that long time practitioners can benefit from the book content. I don't agree. Intermediate practitioners like me will not find it useful as they are familiar with basic poses, basic meditation techniques, basic breathing techniques and basic routines. The routines are very very easy.I like how the book is organized and it can for sure be gem for yoga newbies. It's the waste of money if you've been practicing yoga, pranayama and meditation for a while and you own others books on yoga for beginners.

Works great for me!
I have always been neglectful of excercise, plus I'm underweight and I've MS, and my muscle mass has been minimal for a few years now. But since I started using this book as a guide (only the simplest poses, nothing crazy, I am very selective when choosing my poses) and it's been three weeks, I noteced my butt getting rounder and my biceps and stomach more shapely. I am sure it's not the book per se that made the difference but yoga itself, but in my case I learned the poses from the book, and so I'm obliged to give it 5stars. The paper is very good quality and the descriptions are detailed and include breathing instructions.

Highly recommend for beginning home practice
I started taking studio yoga classes about 9 months ago. In the last month I decided to develop my own home routine and stopped the classes. I did buy a strap, 2 eggs, and a block from the studio, and I am happy with those props. I had learned a lot in class but I wasn’t happy with the pose choices many days. Some poses actually caused shoulder or hip soreness within 24 hours - but were no problem during the pose at the time. Some days I just didn’t feel like I stretched what I really wanted to stretch or I just didn’t feel satisfied/comfortable with the sequence in the class. This book has reenforced what I learned in class as well as introduced me to new poses or pose variations. I am now able to put together a flowing yoga sequence of my own that leaves me feeling far more satisfied, and I am not feeling sore muscles/joints afterwards. I continue to go through the book every week, noting poses to try next to keep challenging myself. For this retired beginner, this book has been exactly what I needed to begin a satisfying and challenging home practice, after 8 months of learning in a yoga studio.

Great place to start for beginners
I started doing yoga when I was in high school and since then I have bought only a few yoga flow dvd’s. I don’t know much more than some very basic yoga. Recently I wanted to really learn yoga and advance my skill in it so I bought a few yoga books, including this one. When I first looked in it I worried it wouldn’t be helpful because there are a lot of very basic moves, but there are variations that I am not super familiar with and I feel like this is a good place to start. If you are very familiar with yoga then this book may not be for you. I

This book is only for a beginner yogi. Experienced yogis should look elsewhere.
This book is not for a yogi unless they are an absolute beginner. Every pose in the book is described very simply. I purchased this book based on the reviews and how it could benefit both the experienced and beginner yogi. I found this to be completely a false statement. I was looking for a more in depth description of each pose...I guess I will continue to search for a book that is geared for a more experienced yogi. If you are a beginner then this book will get you started.

Easy to Read but not what I wanted....
I think that this book was more of what I really wanted. I just wanted to learn more about Meditation and that was all. It does go into detail of Yoga and the history so if this is what you want you will like it.

Best handbook ever!
I have practiced yoga for many years. I stop. Then, I begin again. I am 70 years old, beginning again. This handbook is a perfect guide for my home based practice. Easy to follow instructions and advice. And, it is inspiring.

Beginners opinion
Good beginners book I guess I’m a very new beginner. I only take one class and wanted a book so I can practice yoga at home. The book it a bit wordy. I was looking more for a “demonstration” kind of book. This book talks more and does not focus on the actual muscle memory and movement IMO.

I have a few nice 'glossy' books about yoga
I have a few nice 'glossy' books about yoga, so found it a little difficult to adjust to a kindle yoga book. However, once I got over that minor mental hurdle and got into the book, I was quite impressed. The author explains things clearly and simply. It's a 'no frills' straightforward book of guidance and instruction for both men and women. Well worth the price. Recommend it.
