Lovely illustrations, gentle retelling of a very troubled time, appropriate for lower elementary. Authentic history but age appropriate for younger kids.

Thank you for creating a story I can share with my children and with other. Our history is important and this song is a tradition all should want to know.

The pictures are very nice. I read the book to my granddaughter.

I LOVE this book and so did my students. I read this story for my school’s Black History Month read-a-thon. All the students asked if I could read it again and some of the teachers were emotional towards the end of the story. Beautiful story!

A fabulous Children's book that should be read by more Adults with tremendous graphic artist work included. An award winning book-Lift Every Voice and Sing. It, however, should come with a CD so that readers can hear this beautiful anthem.

This books is amazing!I highly recommend it to parents and anyone who is teaching African American history to children; and, to African American children's book enthusiast; it's a must for your library. This story Lyons has written and the phenomenal illustration by Keith Mallett, I feel this book will become a classic in children's literature.Oh, "Hope's Gift" by Lyons should be read along with "Sing a Song...."Thank you for reading my comments.

Great introduction to this historical song

Absolutely beautifully written and illustrated. I cried reading it the first time to my child. She loved hearing a story linked to this song and we loved that each generation passed the song down to the next.
