Great tool for the trailer tower!
I have been licking around buying this product for months. I recently ran into a problem on my 2003 Ram where I plugged into a trailer and it damaged the trailer turn signal relays inside the Power Distribution Center. That cost me a new PDC to the tune of $500. This tool would have saved me the money and time to replace the PDC. I tested it out on both of my trailers, one a Jayco travel trailer with incandescent bulbs and a Stealth enclosed car hauler with LED lights. It worked flawlessly on both systems. I like that I can test the lights whenever I feel the need without having to bring the truck out to do so. In both of my applications, I can also use this tool to check the interior lights as well on both trailers. My total cost for this unit and the GTX-14BS battery from my local O'Reilly's Auto Parts was just a tick under $200.The instruction's were very clear with a nice message at the end from the owner of IPA. There is only one reference buried within the instructions for what battery to use. The GTX-14BS I purchased works and fits as advertised. I like to stay on top of all my pieces of equipment especially my trailers that don't see everyday usage. This will enhance my confidence in making sure the lighting and braking systems on both trailers is ready to go. I would highly recommend this unit!

although I had pretty much everything needed to make a functional version that ...
So a tool of this type may not be a "must have" but is incredibly convenient to have. After seeing this product for sale, I figured that I'd just make my own version, but as close to being identical to this one as I could. Making it would only require a plastic ammo bin, some flasher relays, a few LED's, a few standard relays, a switching unit, wiring, terminals, & of course a couple various trailer plugs. Mine would have had a momentary button & a SPST toggle switch for each mode in order to keep that circuit on continuously. I wanted my kit to be made of all new parts, although I had pretty much everything needed to make a functional version that wouldnt be as aesthetically pleasing. So after pricing everything out, i would be in the $100+ region, & could just buy the unit for not too much more than that, so I decided just to get it.It looked great, & seemed to have everything you need & nothing you dont. I got it out this morning to check out the operation. I plugged a 7-pin LED trailer test tool into the box just to monitor the output. Everything worked with the exception of the Right Turn (RT) mode. The Left Turn worked, & BTW, it has built in flasher relay(s) for the turn signals to blink as they would hooked to a vehicle. Anyway, something else that threw me for a loop was that on the switch, the RT mode was at the end of the 4 basic function list & was labeled "4 pin' whereas the LT wasn't (see pic). So being that it was brandy new & given the label of the switch, it actually occurred to be that for some odd & crazy reason, this tool did not have a RT output test mode!? Of course this made no sense. A long story short, I ended up taking it apart & gained access to the turn signal flasher relays. Having verified correct circuit output's, it was apparent that the RT flasher relay was not producing an output. Swapping relays confirmed it was a relay issue. I removed the flasher relay cover & following wiggling the input terminal, I could clearly see a solder-joint on the relay circuit board moving. With the switch on, I achieved intermittent relay function. So at this point, this unit had a faulty relay. I contacted the company (Innovative Products) & spoke with a tech rep, Luke. Luke ended up being a great guy to deal with & was very helpful. I explained my situation & what I'd done as far as diagnostics. I'm not implying that Luke condoned my opening the unit for myself as opposed to sending it in for company repair. Luke even went as far as verifying the wire color code's for me to check & verify relay failure. After we concluded faulty a faulty components, he proceeded to send me out a replacement flasher relay for the unit, free of charge. Now that's some great customer service. That experience gave me a great impression of not only the company but also the product!

trailer light tester
One of the best tools I've bought. I work for a rental company and one of the things we rent out is trailers. we used to test the lights with a battery, or jump box, and a 7 way plug. We were always struggling to get a good connection. With the Ranger Mutt light tester you just plug in the light plug change the switch and walk around the trailer looking at the he lights. It eve will test the electric brakes. No need to hook up a truck to test them. well worth the money. Everyone from our General manager down to our mechanics have asked to use it. Thinking about buying a nother one!!

Trailer dealer must have !
I could write a long one but the short story is this is a time saver, problem solving tool. Check every light as soon as trailers are delivered and best of all when a customer buys a trailer we show them all lights are working before they hook up so they can see their truck is the problem not the brand new trailer

This tool is pretty handy
I have many trailers and the lights go out from time to time. I like that I can work on them and test them without a car hooked up for testing. In the winter this is especially nice because I can roll the trailer into the garage and shut the door. The tester itself works reliably. My only suggestion is to have a case large enough to store the adapters inside the case.

Why yes, you can use your 18v batteries to test your trailer
I needed this since my truck has a recall on the trailer wiring.I didn't want to get a heavy battery for it so I ordered a power wheels adapter for my inexpensive Ryobi 18v batteries.Snipped the ends (voids warranty) and used the cable splice that came with the adapter.Done. That's all. Perfect fit and the accessories fit in the box with the battery. I used a 1.5AH battery and it ran the trailer LED lights perfectly.I have not tested the 12v cigarette outlet so I don't know if there's any voltage regulator on it, but nearly all automotive accessories will run from 8 to 24 volts.Enjoy voiding your warranty, I know I did!

It’s what I needed!!
Just what I needed! Got tired of backing up to every trailers to check lights, quick and easy to use. Portable, thickness and value for the money. Keep it on the truck, for quick and easy light testing.
