Algreen81052 Rain Barrel Deluxe Diverter Kit Black

Everything was perfect. Only downside was the impossibly tiny screws they gave to attach it to the downspout. Super easy fix, just use slightly larger ones. We finally just had rain and it's working great!

I installed this kit on my Algreen rain barrel and had a few surprises. First, the hose is really long. There were no instructions for cutting it down to size, but I was able to get it cut down nicely (I have a back-up piece now, which is nice!). Also, the metal clamp things were frustrating. I couldn't, even with the screw open all the way, get them to slide tighter--major fail/major frustration. I tossed those aside, I'm going to use a zip tie instead. Lastly, my Algreen has the two "pipes" coming out of the back, but they're closed up solid! I used the hacksaw to cut one open to make the attachment, but it sure would have been nice if the instructions provided for a little bit more detail. This took me 25 minutes or so with all of my added steps. No rain yet, but hopefully this will work!

I've had two of these for 2 years. Everything has worked fine. The main thing is to put the hole high enough in the downspout. I'd recommend one or two feet above the top of the rain barrel. That way you can raise the barrel to allow easier connection of the hose and easier flow for the water. I was worried that the water collection system would not work well, but that has never been a problem. The barrels fill up rather quickly during a rain storm. Just keep in mind that the water comes out slowly and you need to keep the barrel above whatever you are watering, unless you add a pump.

It is a nice kit, be sure your barrel is water tight or the drain hose is level. The no overflow design is based on the idea of the barrel filling up and backing up in the hose to flow back into the downspout. This is a great idea, but remember gravity. If the barrel leaks around the lid, the water may not back flow into the hose unless the hose is level. That is: the hole in the downspout must be level with the opening in the barrel, especially if your barrel isn't watertight. Hope this helps. I resold this Diverter and a barrel for $95 and purchased RainReserve 2012303 Rain Barrel Diverter Kit. I liked it better.

The extension tube is good for rain barrels, however, the circular saw was nowhere close to capable in cutting sprouts. It took me a while and a lot of force to finally cut off a circular piece of sprout metal to fit the driverter.

I purchased 2 of these (to connect to 2 new 80 gallon Algreen Rain Barrels). Unfortunately when I received them and opened the instructions it shows that what looks to be a flexible tube in the Amazon picture must be installed straight with no bends. Due to space limitations I was only able to install one of these kits/barrels. I wish I had know this prior to ordering as I now have to return one diverter kit and rain barrel.

Super easy to install. The tubing that comes in the kit is extremely strong. I slid it over a broom handle and left it in the hot sun to get the curl out of it. I got a small pice of pvc to connect it to so the water would fall more twards the center and keep a nice tight seal so bugs can't get in. Totally worth it
