Very useful
A very useful and comprehensive look at writing. As the other books in the series, it’s a very refreshing look on these topics.

Superbly useful book for English teachers
This book completes the trilogy alongside Closing the Vocabulary Gap and Closing the Reading Gap. Hugely practical with plenty of strategies and advice on classroom practice, backed up by helpfully referenced research. “We can teach the code for every subject discipline, so that we begin to close the writing gap in every classroom”. The case for explicit teaching of writing at sentence, paragraph and essay level and seizing every opportunity to do so, whatever subject you teach, is compelling made throughout the book. Incredibly useful for teachers and leaders.Fiona Evans, National Literacy Trust

Book content - great, book damaged though
The content of the book is fantastic, but I’m disappointed in the physical condition of the book itself when it is bought ‘new’ and the packaging it arrived in was not damaged in anyway way. It’s too difficult to return products to Amazon now, so I doubt I’ll be buying books from here again, even if it’s a a £1 or so more to buy them elsewhere.

Outline only
This was purchased as a follow up from Quigley's first two books. Understandably, this is a very deep topic that Quigley has basically introduced as a framework for educators and facilitators. There is very little reference to those who struggle with their writing, including handwriting skills. Even so, it is clear, the terminology is comprehensive and relates to the UK's National Curriculum.

Not that good
I have read many books on the teaching of writing. Other than a couple of interesting facts, I could have done without reading this. Teachers crave useful ideas for teaching and this does not contain many handy tips.

Not that original
The book has some ideas, but is mainly a gathering together of stuff that is already out there.

Helpful and interesting
Another title from a respected author. Lots of hints and tips to improve writing which all teachers should read. Accessible and interesting as it breaks down the writing myths.

Excellent
I love Quigley's books - so informative, user-friendly and practical. Perfect for the teacher wanting to improve writing in the classroom.
