Handy bit of kit for the occasional door mortice. Works well once you get to grips with it.
Everything arrived neatly protected inside a blow-moulded case that has two metal latches keeping it closed. Inside the box you get the jig itself, a pair of work gloves, a 16mm chisel, a metal ruler, a pair of spanners, some drill bits, miscellaneous spare fasteners and a set of picture based instructions. This kit more or less includes everything you need to complete the installation of a door mortise latch or even a locking latch onto a door that isn’t currently cut for one, you could even resize the cutouts on an existing door for a larger latch. The instructions are pretty terrible and it only shows four main steps with a few written sentences of guidance. DUEBEL has a linked video in the product gallery which helps cover the usage to a better standard, but that's very easy to miss. A more comprehensive set of written instructions would be a helpful addition and should really be included. I was able to figure it out relatively quickly by having a bit of a play with the jig and a few replays of the video, but that may not be enough for everyone. If you’re unsure, a scrap piece of wood is a wonderful learning tool and it lets you make the mistakes on something that doesn’t matter. The jig itself and all the related components like the bearings and guides are all well-made, everything is constructed and assembled very well. The drilling spindle has no wobble, runs true and is very smooth in operation with a cordless drill. The tungsten carbide cutters match my expectations of a carbide based cutter in appearance, weight and durability. So far they’ve held up just fine with a bunch of test cuts in pine, I haven’t noticed any dulling at all so far with proper use. I’m sure if you abused them or used them in the wrong material they’d dull or chip due to the brittleness, but these should in theory have an insanely long lifetime on wood. The accessories are a bit on the cheaper side, like the chisel, which was literally sticky and covered with oil. It needed a full resharpening to remove the burr in order to get it to a usable level. The provided ruler will get the job done, the scales on it are accurate compared to my trusted one. The spanners are proper cast ones, though they’re not chrome plated or anything. I won't complain about the lack of plating, as I honestly expected a pair of cheap stamped metal ones instead. The gloves are generic ones, but there isn’t really any need to wear gloves while working with this so I'm not sure why they were even included. The only thing you really need to add to this kit to complete the job is a drill, everything else is supplied and is well enough made to get the job done to a good standard without having to mess around with doing it free-hand. The jig and the provided cutters will make quick work of the job, assuming you set it up correctly using the depth stops and vertical guides.Apart from the lack of proper physical instructions, this is a very useful tool if you can justify dropping the money. Obviously if you only need to do a single door it might not be the best option, but if you’re planning a renovation and have a bunch of doors to cut this will save you a lot of time and effort. Even just a couple of doors easily justifies the cost in my eyes, as It really does take an annoying 20-30 minute job down to one that can be undertaken in 5–10 minutes.

NIce tool for regular jobs of door furniture mechanism fitting
Fitting door mechanisms is not a regular job for me, but when I do fit them, there's a lot of preparation making sure I have the right tools, chisles and drills to get the job done neatly. This hole opener kit takes a while to get used to, but once I got the hang of it, it's a godsend for this particular job.The hole opener comes in a plastic formed box that'a easy to carry around. It's not especially robust though and can easily get damaged if treated roughly. The tool itself comes with several different accessorries, gloves, chisle and setting plates for getting the right sizes and widths of the opening for the locks and shafts.Of corse you'll need a drill, but the kit does come with everything else for setting up the jig, as well as opening the hole to accepst the door mechanisms. One thing that's worth noting, as this tool is heavy and very robust, it's worth taking extra care when clamping the frame to the door edge, to prevent any damage.IN use, I was surprised how quick and easy it is to make an accurate and well formed opening. The trick is to set the jig up carefully and being sure how to measure the correct width and depth of the opening before proceeding.I'm very happy to endorse this hole opener kit. If you're a 'chippy' and you do this kind of work all the time, you'll really benefit from the accuracy and quality of this tool. The first couple of times, are best used on a practice piece of wood, but after that, it should be plain sailing.

Fantastic!
If you are a joiner or carpenter or door fitter, get one! This make is such good quality, it's sturdy, strong, made with solid rods, not tubes. It looks good as well as performs well. Easy to use (a few minor tweaks to the design will make it even better). We used it to route the hinges and locks as well as the mortices, we found it doing more than advertised, making it more versatile than at first glance. Bonus!!This is a great time saver and well worth the money. Fully recommended.
