Sooley: The Gripping Bestseller from John Grisham

It is ok

almost the entire book is revolving around the game of basketball. For those who are not interested in the game or know nothing about it will get totally bored.

What a book! What writing! What a story! My first of Grisham, and he is right up there in my favorites. This is such an enthralling story. I have very little or no knowledge/interest in basket ball. And yet this is how much I loved this book. So for someone interested in the game, it would probably be all the more enjoyable. I loved every bit of the progression of the character and what a sensational twist that I for one never imagined. I just wish lil Angela could have been rescued. But other than that, this is A+

Story of a 21st century life … living amongst mindless violence and inhuman hardships set off by enormous courage and kindness, a life that still is filled with hope and belief in a happy future and proof that hard work and being a good human being still succeeds. Nice change from Grisham! A must read of course!

Ok... not a legal fiction so it’s different JG...

Great character building and great story telling.. enjoyed the soaking BB games..However not a sure how readers upcoming kids would be impacted by the ending.

I love Grisham for his law-based novels. I have no knowledge of basketball whatsoever. But Sooley was unputdownable and I probably enjoyed it more than I did a few of his 'traditional' books. Grisham does not need a courtroom to shine.

Sooley is a great read, highlighting a number of the good and bad opportunities of our world. The story is captivating. The plight of the innocent, the poor, the vulnerable is interwoven into the narrative. The valuable reminders of both good and evil. John Grisham tells the story well.

Good read by a good author

What a story! The range of emotions this book triggers I like no other written by John Grisham. The story is deeply moving, inspiring, exciting, heartbreaking, and peppered with just the right amount of humor. One of Grisham's best.

Sou um ávido leitor de John Grisham -li todas sua obras escritas para o público adulto-, e gosto imensamente de seus livros, mas afirmo, com certeza, que Sooley foi o mais marcante e extraordinário que ele escreveu. Uma pena que ainda não esteja disponível em português brasileiro, porque sempre compro o mesmo livro em português, para minha família ler.

Everyone knows that Grisham writes about lawyers, the law and criminals. So a book about an African basketball player was a surprise. I kept thinking that it would get legal, and it did around 90% in! But the story just sucks you in - in true Grisham fashion. Recommended, especially for non Grisham fans.
