Powerful Little Machine!
I purchased this to replace an actual fan that I used for white noise, even though I do not need 45 different sounds. I thought it would be difficult to get used to, but I slept all night with no issues. It worked better for me when I placed it across the room & not near me while sleeping. I had the volume down low & it was still loud enough for me to hear across the room. I put a pair of eyeglasses next to it so you can see the size of it. Perfect to travel with because you can use (3) AAA batteries if you don't have access to a plug. The plug is approximately 4 feet long. For $20, this is a great little machine. I highly recommend it!

Best noise machine for sleep that I've had
This thing is great. I've used those Dohm round noise machines before, but they only make white noise, and they started having problems after a while. I think dust can get sucked into the interior fan mechanism and affect the noise quality. So when I started looking for a new noise machine I knew I wanted a different type, and what sold me on this one was the amount of white, pink, brown, and fan options. And those are great! It's awesome to be able to get so specific with the type of white noise you want. But once I started trying out the other sound options (it comes with a lot!), I ended up falling asleep quickly to two of the rain sounds and even one of the flute options. I've never liked those options on other machines in the past, but this one is just so soothing and relaxing, and you can make really small adjustments to the volume to get it exactly right. And if you have it on a relatively low volume setting, it can't even be heard by people just a few feet away. Of course, it also works as a noise blocker when using it for privacy, which I do for online work meetings so no one else in the house can hear them. Basically, I love this thing. It's perfect for me, it was a low price, and given how much it's already helped me sleep, I can't recommend it enough. If this review ends up helping any other insomniacs then it's worth it!

Very low quality noise, tinny speaker, inconsistent and jarring sounds
I wanted to like this as a sleep aid as it came with batteries. Gave it a chance. It was a very poor experience, not passable or workable. For how big the device itself is, the speaker is tiny, about 1" speaker. It's a cheap cheap paper and glue speaker too, the kind you can buy for $0.50 at hobby electronic stores. The sound it makes when it plays noise is awful, like fingernails hitting a chalkboard every few seconds. Also the tones don't seem to be that good to begin with. Hard to tell when the playback rig is so bad. But I wouldn't be surprised. Sounds like the tone generator skipped a few samples when recording its sounds. Or maybe the harshness is a simple 5s loop of brown noise that wasn't zero centered on the loop, so it has a discontinuity every 5 seconds, who knows.Additionally, it sounds like it's playing them back at an 8kHz sampling rate. Nothing about it is relaxing or helps get a good sleep. Also, the claimed brown noise is not brown noise as the tiny speaker has no bass. Brown, Pink, and White are all roughly the same on this thing. Which wouldn't be that bad in itself, but add on the jarring screechy noise playback, and it's a deal breaker.Low quality. Avoid it unless you are buying it to scare squirrels away from under the house or something.

Nice features, but low-quality sound
First, the good stuff about this. I like that there aren't any bright or blinking lights, I like that it can be optionally battery-powered, I like that there are so many sounds to choose from. What I don't like is that the speak is so cheap that the sound output is low quality, resulting in unpleasant sound. Even a 2nd-generation echo sounds better than this, in my opinion.
