The Art of Knitting Hats: 30 Easy-to-Follow Patterns to Create Your Own Colorwork Masterpieces

Perfect for practicing colorwork knitting
This book gives you the perfect introduction to colorwork knitting. Working on a small piece, like a hat, gives you the practice you need to get used to holding more than one strand of yarn, tensioning, and other techniques before diving into a big project, like a sweater. The patterns are easy to follow and have a great mix of designs. The photographs are beautiful, as well. There are 30 designs but you can produce hundreds of hats just by changing up the colors. This book was a great investment!

Just what I was looking for
I just purchased this book by searching Amazon. I wanted a book with Simple Fairisle knits doing hats. After doing so many caps with Nancy Bates and more complicated knits, I needed something with less concentration of fairisle. The book is called "The Art of Knitting Hats" Whirligig is my first one. I got the book used on Amazon and got an excellent price. I was so surprised to see so many hats in this book. Whirligig I plan to add 12 more stitches to make it 96 stitches like a lot of beanies in Nancy's book. I purchased Chicagoo shorts and want to use that in the cap as well. I am addicted to cap knitting and fairisle. I do not plan to keep one cap but give them away.

Some really great beanie patterns.
The focus of this book is on developing stitch techniques and not on the anatomy of a beanie. All the patterns construct the beanie with a simple tube that is closed by pulling a thread through and tightening the end. I wanted a book that would help me learn the rounds and decreases that would be used to shape a beanie but this one will be great for learning different stitching patterns.

Easy to follow, a lot of great choices in different colors. Time to start making those holiday hats!
Made several for myself, and planing to send a few for holiday gifts. Was very surprised about the book size, thought it'd be much smaller. And appreciate the larger font size. Having fun putting together different patterns. Time to get more yarn for the holidays!

Beautiful, Accessible, & Fun!
Simply put, this book is a gem. Not only is Courtney a talented creator and artist, but she also explains and teaches her patterns very clearly and effectively. The book is full beautiful, original patterns that are made accessible through Courtney's explanations and visuals. This book is a must-have and is a perfect gift for knitting friends (beginner through advanced!). I am eagerly awaiting another book by Courtney Flynn!!

Nice book for the beanie hat knitter
Nothing wrong with this book. It explains all the tricks and worthy techniques for beanie knitting. But there are so many, many other types of hats to knit besides what is offered here. Glorious tams, earflap hats, balaclavas, should be represented, not just beanies. I found it pretty one dimensional. Most knitters who are beyond learning the most basic hat knitting are looking for variation and variety, esp. if they actually live in a genuinely cold winter climate.

Fun Patterns
There is a nice mix of hat patterns in this book. They are all beanie/slouch designs. All patterns use 2+ colors, but they range from relatively easy to a bit more complicated. The authors list the yarns that they have used and also alternative yarns. Charts are good-sized and easy to follow. Being able to knit in the round is also necessary. Advanced beginners should be able to use this book (especially the first set of patterns).
