Good Job Rick
Good Job Rick. I started reading this morning about 6am and just now put it down.My son at much younger age then you, and different cause, had a brain injury and from encephalitis. We were told he would never walk or talk again, However the doctors were all wrong, he does everything but drive a car. Holds down a full time job and is saving to buy his first home. It took a lot of work on our part and his, to get him where he is today. Still everyday he learns more and does more it is something he will do the rest of his life. I am grateful he does not have an addiction to complicate it. As a co-dependent for 21 years I know that over coming an addiction to alcohol is not always possible. Rehabs or A A didn't work for my ex husband. His drinking was so bad it was making me ill. My health was suffering, I left him in 1998 and it was for my health at that time not his. I did everything I could to try and help him. He still drinks today. His bottle was more important to him then his family. Both my children went on to be successful and non drinking adults. I am glad for your sobriety. Congratulations and God Bless you

Triumphant!
As a fan (and former member) of Firefall, I had always wondered what happened to RIck Roberts who just seemed to 'disappear' after the beginning of the 90's. Rick had penned the hits that made Firefall famous and ever-present on the airwaves, and I could not understand why no one had seen or heard anything about him in such a long time. This book pretty much explains everything. It is a soul-bearing account of Rick's battle with alcohol, topped off with an accident and brain injury that nearly rendered him a vegetable; unable to walk, play his guitar or even sing for years. By the grace of God, a saint of a wife, and years of therapy, Rick fought his way back and out of the bottle to become a healthy and active man and musician again. His explanation of alcoholism and the psychology of it for me was eye-opening. Naturally, there are accounts of his dealings with his band Firefall who he was in and out of twice, and numerous other musical endeavors, all derailed because of Rick's sickness. I read this book in two days because I could barely put it down.

Journey to the center of the mind.
I could not put this book down and it was Christmas day with everything going on around me. I have long admired Rick and his solo efforts as a musician and his work with "The Flying Burrito Brothers" and as the principal songwriter for the group "Firefall", plus his work with other talented musicians and songwriters. I have also read his first book. This book talks about his "Relationship" with alcohol, personal injuries and getting back into what he loves most, music. There was no downside to this book.He takes you through a journey that would have made most people question why he is still with us.He is a talented musician who almost lost out on life, but with the strong love and support from his wife and friends overcame insurmountable odds.He delves into the injuries, the rock music scene, the love and support of his wife, and the everyday living that happens to us all. This is a must read for anyone who loves music, the demons of alcohol and how some injuries can incapacitate anyone at anytime. Overcoming the odds and getting back to the music is what "redeems" him.

A Must Read...Excellent Book~
As a Registered Nurse and Dear friend of Rick's, I know from my medical experience the difficult journey that Rick faced from his various injuries and his alcoholism over his lifetime. Many would not be here to tell their stories, so God definitely had a plan for you Rick to tell your story and inspire others that are faced with their daily battle with alcoholism. Your book gives others hope and the strong will to not give up and to continue trying to change their lives. You have found your purpose and hopefully won't be bored again....continue to write your wonderful books.Mary, you are an amazing inspiration to all spouses, girlfriends and family members that live with a person suffering from alcoholism to not give up on your loved one, as there is hope!!! Rick is very blessed to have you in his life fighting in his corner. A true love story...."For Better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in Sickness and in Health, until death do us part"....Mary & Rick~~~~An excellent book to read!!!!!!

A Tale Of Strength and Recovery
I have been of Rick Roberts going back to Flying Burrito Brothers through solo work and, later, Firefall. Because of this, I was interested in this book. Having finished it, I can honestly say that he pulls no punches and goes into great detail about his problems with alcohol and the injury that almost ended his music career (fortunately, he's back with a great new band). The ability to recover from both of these is a testament to his strength of character and his ability to self-reflect on those things that lead him down the initial path. One thing that Rick spends a good deal of time is the support of his wife, Mary, to help him on his journey back. Too often, we hear stories of music casualties but this story provides a positive outcome to a tale that is too often told. I strongly recommend it to even the casual reader, as well as the die-hard fan.

Real Guide Back to Real Life
Rick Roberts and I have been friends since 1966 when we performed our class song on the Dunedin High School stage. I was at many of the events he writes about:: concert for his Dad & grand dad, his first meeting with his wife and angel, Mary Margaret McKinney @ Lonigan's in Estes Park, drunk on stage at Mishawaka, begging for money on his Night with the Composer tour etc.; and yet he kept 2 jail incarcerations, Traumatic Brain Injury and alcoholism from my knowledge. This story is. no average recovery from alcoholism. To say its an inspiration for recovery and rehabilitation is to sell Ricky short; this will give even the hardcore addict or disabled HOPE!!! I'm sending my brother the book to aid in his recovery and using it as a warning for my own indiscretions.
