Sexual gratification, without the commitment, appears to be the lead character's mission. As the plot unfolds, you realize that there is more to Hemel than something as simple as that.Let's talk about the censored version first. The censored version is what you get if you bought the streaming media from Amazon. However, if you buy the DVD, as I did, you will not have to worry about censored content. This review is about the DVD, the uncensored movie.The movie follows the life of a young lady who pursues sexual gratification for its own sake. She is not interested in forming relationships with her bed partners. There is nothing inherently wrong with this, as quite a lot of men do the same thing and are viewed differently under traditional values. What is fascinating about her is the relationship that she has with her father. The movie is Dutch, with English subtitles. However, you do get enough understanding of the story to know that she is in love with her father. Not necessarily in a sexual way, but definitely is possessive.The reason for the casual sexual encounters is simply to fulfill her needs. But clearly her heart is not in it, only her genitalia. In other words, the encounters are simply for sex. At some point in the story, it becomes clear that the father will be committing to a relationship with his girlfriend. At that point, Hemel is emotionally upset. Even to the point of contemplating jumping off the roof of a building.The star of the movie is the beautiful Dutch actress, Hannah Hoekstra. I reviewed another one of her movies, "App", earlier this year. While I enjoyed "App" more than I did this one, "Hemel" is still a fascinating movie to watch.Recommended.

The lead actor did a great job and her interactions with her father are what carries the movie. The writing and directing were fine but I have never seen such a level of dysfunction in a father-daughter relationship on screen. The father went overboard protecting her as a child, even to the point of not engaging in any adult committed relationships. It taught Hemil the wrong lesson, that she can go through life and just have a sexual relationship without any need for commitment or emotional attachment. So, her overreaction to the father announcing his engagement is fair, because she believed that she and her father would be on the same journey. It was disturbing to see her father took her off the bed and carried her to the bathroom, pull down her underwear, and then place her on the toilet so that she can pee. What the actual... Thank goodness he did not do the courtesy wipe or thank goodness they did not show that on screen. While there is a lot of dysfunction, I believe this is a brutal way for her to start thinking of emotional attachment outside of her relationship with her father.

The DVD was delivered on time and in good condition as promised. That being said, when viewed it was a huge disappointment. Foreign films can suffer two types of error -- the obvious translation / subtitle error and the other error not limited to foreign films: a lack of coherence in the scripting.Early in the film we see the young Hemel going on a bed-hopping spree that for the most part satisfies her physical needs, but leaves her emotional development needs unmet. The director makes it clear from the explicit nature of the couplings that tab A indeed goes into slot B. OK but the adult audience knows this already.There is almost an antiseptic aspect in play in that while the scenes are explicit, there is not much of an erotic atmosphere generated. It is difficult for the actors and the director to pull this off but they manage to do so. One suspects that this was intended to ward off overeager censors and convince them that it is necessary for the film. I got the uncensored version by the way.We get this much: Hemel is a girl having more than her share of problems moving into womanhood. She grew up without her mother, and she has attached too strongly to her father. (The story leaves the viewer to decide if any incest is / was involved). Hemel's father brings home several attractive women home to live with him as long as their relationship lasts and it is clear on some primal level that Hemel sees them as competition.But after figuring out the above, one is left with a what does all this mean? What is next? Hemel is a film that doesn't hold together.

People purchase or watch movies for various reasons. type of the movie they watch usually fits in their reason to watch. There are some erotic movies or romantic movies with erotica in it or porn movies that has some story line; all of these movies you may want to watch with your partner. Hemel is not one of those movies. It has full frontal nudity ( male and female) but not sex act. Without nudity, what you may call sex scene would get PG-13. next thing to mention is the subject of the movie, the story line and conversations between character. it is nude, blunt, vulgar. it could get R rating based on language. And father-daughter relationship portrait as border line, platonic level incest. Mostly from daughter's perspective. Then and an unexplain scene in the movie. While she is sleeping, calls her dad- by the way she never called him Dad, father or any other version of it but by his name- when he comes in her room. he says" you need to pee ( out of no where, really) and picks her up, carries her to bathroom. Pulls down her panties( nothing showed but profile view), she sits and pees. Scene ends. Why was there? What purpose it served? Have no idea. Entire movie is like that. I purchased the DVD and it was not censored at all. but like I said, save your 20 box and browse internet if you wanted to see nude female for free! let me tell you here. if you are somewhat into close family relations! go rent or buy movie called "spank the Monkey" You will be entertained. Just keep kids out :)

Eigentlich beginnt der Film recht verheißungsvoll. Ein junges Mädchen und ein attraktiver junger Mann liegen wohl nach einer vorangegangenen intimen Begegnung, entspannt und relaxt völlig nackt und ungeniert auf dem Bett. Die junge Frau wird sogar plötzlich wieder "übergriffig".Ich dachte mir gleich, "Die Niederländer sind doch offener und nicht so verklemmt" wie die meisten deutschen Filmemacher, wofür es ja etliche Zeugnisse gibt.Doch meine Hoffnung wurde bald enttäuscht: Die junge subversive Frau kommt nicht zur Ruhe und ist permanent auf der Suche nach jungen Männern, eine Beziehung, sucht sie keinesfalls, es geht ihr ausschließlich um ihre sexuelle Befriedigung. Die zahlreichen Dates, die uns dann vor Augen geführt werden, verlaufen jedoch nicht der hoffnungsvollen Anfangsszene entsprechend, sondern orientieren sich dann eher an der deutschen Art filmisch mit diesem Thema umzugehen.Die fragwürdige, intensive Bindung der jungen Frau zu ihrem Vater bringt weitere eigenartige Verirrungen mit sich. Vieles wird thematisch angeschnitten, doch leider kaum etwas konsequent filmisch umgesetzt.Der Film hätte einiges an Potenzial, hätte man die Anfangsbegeiterung weiter spielen lassen und sich nicht in zu viel Nebensächlichem verfangen.

Die junge Frau Hemel, die früh ihre Mutter verloren und eine sehr enge, aber nicht inzestuöse Beziehung zu ihrem Vater, einem Galeristen mit wechselnden jungen Geliebten hat, scheint in seine Fussstapfen zu treten. In Episoden werden ihre Sexabenteuer zu diversen Männern gezeigt, bei der es nur um Sex geht, Nachspiel brauche sie nicht. Sie gerät auch an einen Sadisten, der sie würgt und ihr ein Hämatom am linken Jochben verpasst, verhält sich provokativ zu der Freundin ihres "Halbbruders", die als Jungfra in die Ehe gehen will, schläft mit einem verheirateten Mann, zu dem sie Liebe zu empfinden glaubt, der aber seine Frau nicht verlässt, und als ihr Vater eine feste Freundin hat und mit der zusammenziehen will, sieht sie ihr bisheriges Leben als gescheitert.Hannah Hoekstra spielt beeindruckend, weniger ist es ihr nackter Anblick, wobei nicht der kleine Busen, sondern die knochige Gestalt, deren Rippen zum Klavierspiel einladen, unschön sind, der Film hat für seine Länge wenig Aussage. Ich sah eine Frau, die Sex sucht, zuffällig eine Liebe gefunden zu haben scheint, die schon verheiratet ist, und dann weint sie in den Armen einer Angestellten ihres Vaters, weil - ja warum?Weil es mit der einen Liebe nicht geklappt hat und die hübsche Sophie, mit der ihr Vater zusammenziehen will, ihr diesen "wegnimmt"?"Hemel" lohnt sich nicht, aber Hannah Hoekstra sollte man weiter im Auge haben.Doc Halliday

Wir können uns den Ausführungen von @Kawern voll anschließen. Wir haben bis zum Schluss auf eine Auflösung der Handlung gewartet. Aber es kam nichts. Schade um das Geld.Das wir beim Kauf übersehen habe, dass es der original Film mit deutschen Untertitel war ist unser Problem, aber es waren nicht all zuviel Dialoge.
