Good book!
Very nice book. Well written with clear instructions on a number of specific techniques. Published in 1985, the materials are somewhat behind the times but the details of the methods described look like they could work just fine to get started making knives. I hope so because I just bought the materials to build a few and am looking forward to trying out the craft.

Love this book.
Great, great, great book. Tim walks you through making 10 different knives. I've made the first two and am doing a second build of the second one. There are some points that might do with a bit more explanation, but in general it worked very well for me. I supplemented the reading with lots of Youtube watching to see stuff in action. Can't say enough about this book. Perfect for a beginner, as long as you can figure out some of the tiny details yourself.

Recommended for knifemaking Basics
Getting into knifemaking as a way of hobby or extra money can quickly turn into a expensive undertaking just for materials. Tim offers a way of starting out with inexpensive materials and very good instructions on producing expert quality at an affordable price. Tim gives good diagrams and pictures on a good assortment of folding and fixed blade knives. Very good step by step directions. All in all a very good book. Thanks Tim.

Custom Knifemaking : 10 projects from a master Craftsman
I bought this book when it first came out in 1985.I think it is an excellent book for beginning knifemakers. It covers very well the tools and techniques of knifemaking. Then it offers 10 different projects step by step to make many different and very useful knife designs.I have just purchased one for my young nephew. I have several other books by Tim McCreight that are excellent.

This was a gift.
We bought this book as a gift for our son. He really liked it, however, I haven't seen him make any knives yet. When we looked the book over before wrapping it we did see that the text was clear and easy to read and the photos were good and descriptive. The price was reasonable. I would recommend this book to others that are interested in making knives.

Great read
For the beginner, was a great read, very informative. And the journey begins. Also a good desktop basic reference. Was easy for my son to read who really has the interest. Good quality book with good information.

Excellent first book to explore knifemaking
As someone who has never made a knife from scratch before I was looking for an introductory book that would explain and show the processes to me. This was my ideal book. Whilst it doesn't go into depth (temperatures for hardening, viscosity of oil etc) it points out where you can further explore that particular subject (and which, with the internet it's so easy to do). He gives 10 varied examples of handmade knives, all differently made and styled and takes you by the hand in making each one. All in all an excellent primer for someone like myself who didn't know what micarta was before reading it. The only thing I would change would be to have the illustrations in colour and then I would call it a basic bible but I can understand why it isn't, the colour plate cost would quadruple the price !

Petit abc de coutellerie
Belles illustrations, de très bons commentaires. Ouvrage à mettre entre les mains des amateurs comme des confirmés. Seul bémol: il faut un dictionnaire spécifique à côté... .

Excellent book
This book is an excellent guide to custom knifemaking, my teachers at Georgian college in the Jewelery and metalsmithing program recommended this book highly and I have to say that this is an excellent book for anyone interested in knifemaking.

Don't be scared
Good range of projects. This could be a little scary if you're not used to metal work, but don't be afraid. The designs range from the very simple through to a little more advanced. illustrations throughout the book feature award winning designs that are based on many of the projects, but taken to a point several levels above. The instructions are step by step and many use very basic tools, so the amateur can be away in no time. A great introduction.
