We know you want the very best performance from your telescope and the Orion 2 inch to 1.25 inch Precision Centering Adapter will help! This affordable adapter precisely centers any 1.25 inch astronomy accessory in a 2 inch focuser tube. By accurately centering 1.25 inch accessories on the telescope's light path, performance of the entire optical system is improved. Using the Orion Precision Centering Adapter is beneficial for both astrophotography and visual stargazing. Whereas standard 1.25 inch adapters commonly use a thumbscrew to secure inserted accessories, which pushes an inserted barrel off-center, the Precision Centering Adapter employs a lateral compression mechanism that accurately centers the 1.25 inch accessory on the telescope's light path. Once a 1.25 inch eyepiece, collimator, camera nosepiece, or other 1.25 inch accessory is inserted, a simple clockwise rotation of the Precision Centering Adapter's knurled top ring moves two steel rollers towards the exact center of the optical axis, precisely centering the accessory and securing it in-place. Your 1.25 inch eyepiece and accessory barrels will remain free of scratches and dings from thumbscrews when you use the Precision Centering Adapter. The Precision Centering Adapter's 2 inch barrel is threaded for use with Orion 2 inch visual and astrophotography filters for easy enhancements.

Orion centering adaptor
I bought this to go with my 2' low profile focuser, the quality is top notch, but, be careful with your high end eyepieces because this ring doesn't snap tight ,or snap loose.meaning that more than once, I almost dropped my eyepiece because it backed off and let the eyepiece fall out of the focuser! How it work's is: You turn it a quarter turn to the right to tighten it on your eyepiece, and then turn it to the left to loosen it,,,the problem is, if you bump, or shake at all..It can back off,.or turn to the left! which will leave your eyepiece,or ..Camera! loose!,with the potential of a major problem!..Maybe someone knows how to "Lock It " when it is tight on your eyepiece? Otherwise..the build seems very good, with a nice finish.

I like it a lot!
I found that I had a lot of "slop" or "play" in my 1.25" adapter with 2 thumb screws. This applies a more even pressure to hold the eyepieces in and if nothing else you get a consistent pressure when tightening a piece to it. This adapter is held in with thumb screws, but I made a mark on the adapter where the thumb screws line up so at least I get them in the same spot every time. I think it is worth it compared to just thumb screws on an eyepiece.

giving me much better views of the object I am looking at
I had trouble in the past with my laser collimator not setting right into my 1.25 eyepiece adapter on my reflector telescope, which resulted in the laser spot not being in the center of my primary mirror,,,each time I removed and replaced it it would be in a different location due to just having one clamping screw on the eyepiece holder ,,,however with this orion compression type fitting it clamps equally all around the collimator with the beam spot being dead center on primary mirror,,giving me much better views of the object I am looking at,,

Perfect for equipment protectors
I really like this. It doesn't add a lot of unnecessary mass (area or weight) to my setup and I'm impressed at the holding security when pointed near zenith and back loaded. It's well made, looks good and serves a need. I ordered the 2" adapter just for grins! I wouldn't call it a "must have" (but then, I've never resold lenses either) but it's definitely one of my preferred units. I would recommend it.John

Okay but not great
Works to keep a 1.25" len centered but it does not lock it in and the slightest touch loosens everything up. I now use the 1.25" adapter that came with my 2" televue 2X powermate it has much better mechanical fit and a screw to lock everything in nice and tight.

Great addition for your telescope.
Purchased this item to help hold my eyepiece more centered and also in hopes of the set screws not leaving marks on my expensive EP's. Well it works and works great. It may be a tad pricey but it is of good build quality, the fit and finish is excellent and it does exactly as promised. No more set screws leaving marks on my eyepieces! Recommended.

I was very disappointed with this device
I was very disappointed with this device, it does not hold the eyepieces very securely, they can be pulled out without much force it all

Careful rotating eyepieces, otherwise good.
As an owner of this and the Astromania centering adapter, I'd go with the Astromania just on price alone. One thing you will see mentioned here and elsewhere is that the locking ring is a twist ring. If you try to rotate an eyepiece, diagonal, camera etc, and don't re-tighten the ring, your eyepiece may become loose and fall out.I use a 2" laser colimator to set my mirrors in my large Newtonian telescope. Then I use this and a chershire to double check the laser. The one thing not mentioned is when the centering adapter is tight you cannot pull out the eyepiece. I use these on public outreach events because even telling people DO NOT TUG THE EYEPIECE! people tug on the eyepiece. I'm happy with the purchase, I've used it for 5-6 years now, and have no regrets owing this device.

Good for quick swap outs of light weight eye pieces, wouldn't be comfortable with the heavier ones though
Nicely engineered, does it's job of centring as you would hope, although the adaptor itself can be just a smidge off centre if like mine it is going into a 2" adaptor and is fixed in place by 2 thumb screws. The reason I knocked a star off this is due to the mechanism that holds the eye piece in place. You need to give the adapter quite a firm twist to make sure the eye piece is held tightly. This is ok with some light weight EP's but, once you start moving to the longer focal length EP's that, in most cases, tend to get quite a bit heavier, I would certainly not feel comfortable trusting the limited grip, especially as the longer focal length EP's tend to be the pricier ones. The rollers do ensure that your expensive EP's don't get marked up on the barrel though which is nice.
