RECAPS Reusable Coffee Filter Capsules Compatible with Nespresso Original

I have been using these reusable capsules since November 2017. I have Nespresso Latissima Pro and Nespresso Inissia machines. First, I did a few tries using the empty capsules without and with the lid seals and rubber seals. First, the rubber seal must be installed. The lid seal is thinner than the original nespresso pod lids. It is easily broken by the water pressure. These capsules fit well in my machines. No problems like others are reporting on their reviews with their machines. Before I use these capsules with coffee, I study the reviews and comments. My conclusion was that for a successful use of these capsules, I have to have the proper combination of the following components: coffee beans roast, grinding level (granularity), amount of coffee, and packing pressure in the capsule. First, the coffee beans. Coffee beans have to be roasted for espresso. Other mild roasting levels could be used for extracting ristreto drinks, not espresso or lungo per Nespresso standards. Second, the grinder, it has to be conical burr grinder. I was able to get a Breville BCG600SIL conical burr grinder. Next, grinding setting on the grinder. I started with 12.5 setting in my BCG600SIL. Then I compared it with the grains of an original Nespresso pod. It was closed enough. From 12.5, I went down and up to find an optimal setting. Then, the most difficult part, packing pressure and coffee amount in the capsule. Doing this by hand, there are millions of combinations when we add all of these variables: grain level, grains amount, and packing pressure. So, I had to be patient and consistent with my testing. Too much pressure and amount, the machine is obstructed and almost no coffee is extracted. Too light pressure and the extraction is weak and watery. But, there is a sweet spot where I got what was acceptable to me for espresso extraction. Great flavor and good amount of crema. I was looking to get the same amount and brewing rate from the capsule. After two months of use, I am getting closer to get consistent results every time. One note, coffee beans don't have to be flavored or oily beans. That is just another problem for the grinder. Always use external syrups for flavoring your coffee.

Product Used with Brevelle Creatista Plus Breville BNE800BSS Nespresso Creatista Plus, Silver Coffee: World Market Amalfi Coast Espresso ground on espresso settings on my grinder. I looked into the many varieties of refillable capsules, especially since the Nespresso brand is $.70+ each and I like to have two shots in my cappuccino. I chose this one because of the stainless steel capsules and the metal tamper. I did not trust the plastic ones, and from of the videos I have seen, you WANT the ones that use the stickers. I know you have to buy replacements, but the ones with reusable caps do not allow enough pressure to build up and you do not get as strong a coffee and do not get the nice creama. I typically make cappuccinos, and the shot of espresso I receive tends to be as strong as the Nespresso brand with nice crema. I fill each capsule with about a scoop and a half of coffee, using the tamper to press it into the capsule. Do not overfill, you need to leave a little bit of space between the coffee and the lid. I then place one of the aluminum caps on the capsule and then tap it a few times to make sure it is not pressed in too tightly. So far, it produces nice espresso at a fraction of the cost with a brand I enjoy. CONS: - You have to buy more lids when these run out. - You have to prep your own coffee, cutting down on the convenience of the Nespresso machine. - It takes a little bit to take the used lid off of the capsule, but it is easy to clean. PRO: - Inexpensive refills - they pay for themselves - Nice coffee with good crema - You can use whatever coffee you like

I use a very good grinder (Krups) and grind the Lavazza beans till I have a nice fine powder. I fill it per the instructions, I even played around with it, 1/2 full, 3/4 full and 100% full. No matter what I do, more than 1/2 the coffee (water) ends up in the tray that is meant to catch the caps when you lift the handle. At first I thought my Nespresso machine was broken and leaked water all over the counter top, until I realized the reason why I am getting so little pour into my cup was because more than 1/2 the water never made it into the cup but in stead ended up in the tray. In my opinion this is because of bad design or bad manufacturing. They must know this because why else would they provide two different type (color) rubber bands that you have to place around the capsule to prevent it from leaking water. They must have had many complaints about this and their solution is to add a rubber band - which for the record does not work. Watch my video which I have attached. I mean really, why can a company such as Lavazza manufacture a plastic capsule that works beautiful and never leaks, but this stainless steel cap leaks! Unacceptable. The leaking has nothing to do with how fine your coffee is grinded or how full you fill the cap, it is just plain bad design or manufacturing. If caps typically leak and need rubber bands to stop them from leaking all caps, no matter the manufacturer would have had the same problem.

I the reusable caps are great. I was told when buying them to by metal ones and these were perfect, great price for what you get. The packaging was really nice. It also works great in our Nepresso. We felt the pods get too expensive ave sometimes you might not like the coffee. The downside, the instructions are not that clear. It took a lot of trial and error to find the right amount of grinds to pack. It also is not clear how to put the seals on. It comes with rubber bands to replace around the caps but you wouldn't know if you didn't investigate. Also, it's not clear how to order any new parts. Also, you have to be careful removing the seal outs such a pain if you don't know what your doing it will stick to the rim. And when you try to remove it out comes off in pieces. We found running out under warm water, and peeling it from the glue works the best. After all is said and done as long as you got the hang of using it it works great. Its a lot better than wastimg money on disposable caps. The directions could be a little clearer.

The RECAPS Stainless Steel Refillable Capsules Reusable Pods was the best investment ever! I had bought another reusable plastic brand pod which was 6 pods total that had the flip top...but I was not totally sold on it with how it brewed my espresso and how it tasted. I saw this steel set 3 pods with adhesive caps and thought it was a bit too much for its price, but I read mix reviews, so I figured to give it a try. I bought the set late June 2018 and I continue to use it today and I am very pleased with it. Because I can use my own espresso Cafe Bustelo, Illy or make my own espresso mix. I love the look, smell and the taste of my espresso. I can confirm that the pod gives off the crema expected from the Nespresso machine with this Stainless Steel Refillable Capsules - I haven't tried with the regular coffee grind. What comes in the set. About (120? )Paper sleeves have 6 adhesive caps, heavy duty tamper, brush, 3 extra pod gasket, 3 steel pods. Pros: Crema, taste, cost-effective in the long run, mix your own coffee grind or espresso, easy to wash. Downside: Cleaning out the grinds (this is expected for reusables!). be mindful when you need to reorder caps before you run out(not sure how much to replenish the caps are. I still have a lot of caps to get through. Well worth the purchase versus to the the plastic or the nespresso capsule option.

We have a Breville Creatista Plus. The first time I used the RECAP Stainless Steel filters it worked great. I played around with it and found it easy. I filled a couple and left them for my husband to use. When he tried it the next day, it didn't work. There was a drop or two and the machine sounded like pressure was building. The machine went on for longer than normal and didn't sound right. I tried a couple times and set it aside to wait until I'd contacted their support for help. It took a couple weeks to remember, I finally found the transaction and did a live chat with their customer service. They sent me videos for the wrong product but got it right and sent me the videos that you see at the bottom of the listing demonstrating how to fill the pods. They did not have any advice to offer of any kind beyond sending me the links already available in the listing or reading off information in the listing. They had no tips or suggestions to offer besides what was already available. They were responsive & polite. I emptied a Nespresso pod into the RECAP and made a fantastic cup of coffee. When I used my coffee from my favorite Portland roaster, (fine espresso ground, same amount, one medium tamp) it worked but not as great a cup. I've determined I need to keep trying and use Illy brand or Lavanza like they suggest.

I spent a lot of time researching options before pulling the trigger. And I love RECAPS. I almost didn't buy this because I wanted to hold out for the WayCap Ez kickstarter product. (It looks so cool.) And I almost bought Sealpod, but those suckers cost the five bucks more and they only give you one instead of three. Trust me, you want three. RECAPS give you 3 reusable capsules, a handy scoop, a sweet tamper, foils galore, and extra rubber gaskets (not sure when I'll need them). Oh, and a brush I never use. Really nice packaging. I kept the whole shabang in the box open in a drawer. I bought this because Nespresso capsules and the 3rd party options are pricey. (My Nespresso Citiz was a hand-me-down.) And I like buying beans from local roasters. Also, I love fresh ground espresso. Oh, and I'm not terribly fond of the decaf options out there. And, since we've got a good burr grinder, this seemed like the natural option. Tips I've had these for a week. Here's what I've learned: Try a grind a little bit finer than table salt--definitely not espresso grind. (Sprinkle a bit of salt and grounds in your hand to compare.) Instead of 5 grams, as recommended, try between 4.1 and 4.5 grams. (I use a precision scale left behind by a drug-dealing tenant.) Use the tamper and only apply the pressure of the weight of the tamper, or maybe just a teensy bit extra. If you try to fit a whole 5 grams into these, you're going to tamp too hard.

I really wanted to like this product. I have been a loyal Nespresso user for a few years now and have spent hundreds on their capsules. They are expensive little single use pods, however, they still are less expensive than a morning run to Starbucks, plus, I can make an arguably better tasting latte for a fraction of the cost. However, this reusable pod idea was extremely appealing to me because I normally make a larger double shot latte and use two pods, which could equal up to $1.50 in just pods from Nespresso. When I received these, they were packaged supremely well. The materials were super high quality, all stainless steel (I hope food grade rubber for the seals). You also received a nice metal tamper to tamp the ground beans, a 5 gram scoop to fill the pod, a brush to clean the sides of the pods, and the booklet full of the seals. I was pretty excited to try it out, so I ground some fresh beans to pretty fine grain, inserted the capsule (my machine is the Creatista Plus by the way) and pulled a shot of espresso, only to find a super diluted espresso coming out of my machine. It looks like tainted water rather than a dark espresso. I looked at the pod and found the seal maybe had 2 or 3 holes in the foil rather than the usual grid pattern punctures. I tried multiple times, different tamp pressures, different coffee quantity, and even different grinds of my beans and all resulted in the same. In other words, , not enough water ran through the capsule but rather around it. Not sure if its a fundamental flaw with the design of the pods or maybe my machine. Perhaps it will work in your machine but if you do own a Creatista Plus, I'd save the headache of purchasing these. I returned my set a few days later.

Excellent alternative to buying pods. First impressions are great, I’ve used these in a brand new L’or Barista Absolu - I have to admit I was a bit nervous using them for the first time, will they break my shiny new machine? No is the simple answer - they work perfectly and eject into the pod tray as normal pods do. I have a favourite coffee bean which I grind as small as my Dualit burr grinder will go - given the tiny dose of coffee you can fit in the pod it’s incredible how good the extraction is (I’m not claiming to be James Hoffman by any means but it tastes good to me). There is still a small amount of waste generated with the foil lids and paper backing sheet but overall these are a great buy.

I asked specifically if they were designed to work with the Ninja Prestige Dual Brew Coffee Machine that only accepts Nespresso Original Coffee Pods. Short answer is NO. Not designed for the Original Pods.
