Hassan Hakmoun and Zahar mix a traditional sintir with electric instruments to create their own version of Morrocan Gnawa music. Voted best release of 1992, and subsequently signed to Peter Gabriel's Real World Label.

"Moroccan Roll"
On "Night Music", the NBC program dedicated to all sorts of music, which ran in the late-Eighties/early-Nineties, host David Sanborn described Zahar's music as "Moroccan roll". In spite of the unforgivable pun, Sanborn was spot on; and their self-titled album, from 1990, makes one wish the group had recorded more of their jazz/rock/native-born-music fusion.
