Over time, oil additives designed to neutralize acid build-up are depleted, and impurities build up in the oil. The OTO300 uses a unique capacitive/resistive sensor to measure the levels of acid (related to TBN) and contamination from soot, dust, dirt, wear metals, fuel, water or antifreeze. Using the OTO300, many customers have discovered leaks in their cooling systems long before any permanent damage to their engine. By confidently rejecting the outdated, 60 year old advice to change oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, most users can easily cut motor oil use by over 50%. Notice *Some specialty or extended use oils with high levels of additives, or with metals such as zinc or moly, may give falsely negative results. Examples include Amsoil Signature series, Redline, and non API Royal Purple oils.

Motor oil tester
Great little tool. Pays for itself with one use. Had the original Lubricheck. Saved me plenty. This looks and works it in the same. Like this one as much as my other one.

Need Better Quality Control
This device (the OTO300) appears to be a clone of the Lubricheck oil analyzer also sold here on Amazon but not currently available. Since it was much cheaper ($25) and available I thought I’d give it a try. Reducing the frequency of oil changes can add up to significant savings over time if you have multiple vehicles to maintain and this would pay for itself quickly. The unit arrived quickly and was well protected by the Amazon packaging and its own retail package. Anxious to try it out I quickly installed the batteries and tried to power it on. Unfortunately, it did not give any indication of having power. None of the LEDs were illuminated. So, I removed the batteries and confirmed that they were properly inserted. Then, I replaced them with new batteries with the same results. Ironically, on the back, next to the battery compartment, there is a small quality control sticker indicating that it had been inspected. Perhaps that sticker is only there for looks. Or, perhaps they need an inspection to ensure there was really an inspection! Either way, I had to return it. My intention was to reorder until I saw that they had doubled the price! Now I might as well purchase the Lubricheck model which is the original version of this technology.

This is a Chinese knock off of the Lubricheck
I bought one of these. It doesn't work. Only the LED flashlight part seems to work. I think they tried to copy the Lubricheck and couldn't get it to work as well, but sell it anyway.
