A fantastic little JRPG.
JRPGs are one of my favorite genre of games. I personally think that Japanese developers make better RPGs and this game doesn't disappoint. It's a very short game, but that doesn't mean it's not worth the time or detract from how fun it is. I think the setting is what really makes this game good. For people who don't want to invest a ton of time into a game for whatever reasons, you might enjoy a short, little fun JRPG. The same developers also released a very similar game like this called Lost Sphear. I highly recommend both games.

Awesome shipping and packaging (Not game review[like these should be people])
Finally! Finally after so long to try and get my hands on this game I picked it up for $55 plus my outrageous 10% sales tax. Yes, this is still over the $49.99 you can get it for digitally, but that is for chumps! I absolutely love this game and the packaging. Being on prime shipping was awesome because the excitement is too great to wait. I am a bit confused for the cover, I am not sure if that is properly licensed to be able to have an English cover? I think it is cool none the less, however, I left the Japanese cover on. The cartridge itself is in Japanese only with no English cover for that (Due to there being very little saves in the game my cartridge is currently in hibernation mode and not losing 6 hours of play to show you), which is fine with me, like normal, the case is small and stiff. I am not sure if I want to keep the English cover because if it is left inside the case itself, the case will not close easily and looks bad with two layers of paper. The back of the English cover has been translated for those that cannot read Japanese, however the game instructions as well as "Contact for support" are in Japanese. At note Nintendo of America cannot help you unless the game breaks your Switch so please don't bother calling. The game itself, will start in 1 of 3 languages, English, Japanese or French. If your system is in English the game will default to English for you.Rather happy with this purchase and would recommend anyone thinking about this, to jump on it and grab this amazing game and great sale.*Edit* My friend pointed out to me there is a save feature in the menu that I never saw. Oh well, still playing it like I thought for authenticity :DFriendly note, good luck doing anything else on your Switch because I have about 17 hours of play (I have hit 4 saves only) and something like 40+ hours of hibernation. My last save was 4 hours ago and no sight of one soon.. LOVE IT!

Really does play in English!!
So I bought this game because the sequel "Lost Spector "will be releaasing next year and it'll have a physical release so wanted to get a physical copy of "I am setsuna" At first I was a bit hesitant to order this because it's in Japanese and I don't know how to read it. So l decided to check out the reviews for this and they seem pretty assuring that it will play in English and it'll work out. So I took the chance. When I got the game it already had an English cover! Which is pretty cool. But I sadly ended up ripping it because the printed copy was on top of what was already sealed copy. The Japanese copy. Really weird how they did it. Moving on from being thrown off by the random double sealing I put the game and crossed my fingers. Within seconds the game uploaded and everything is in English! So it's does work and it does translate in English. I didn't have to set nothing it automatically did it! So if you are a collectiable fiend like me and don't mind that the game cartridge isn't in English but the game is I would recommend. It also shipped very quickly. I mean it took awhile because I did the free shipping but they shipped it out yesterday and was delivered today. If anyone has any question I'll gladly answer In the best of my ability.

but personally feel like it works well and is inciting
Automatically converts to English text. I'm only about an hour in, but I'm really enjoying it. I saw a lot of complaints on the story, but personally feel like it works well and is inciting. It has a really nice retro feel, perfect for a handheld. For the extra $20 I think it is well worth it, especially since its an import.

Generic gameplay and poor design decisions hamper what would otherwise be a decent, but not great, game
I really wanted to like this game. I Am Setsuna, at first glance, has a somewhat unique story, but the story is about all it has going for it. The game suffers from otherwise generic gameplay, with typical backtracking in the story, where as soon as it appears you're making progress, suddenly you're two steps back. Pacing is awful, where normal enemies will be a piece of cake, then a boss wipes out the party in just a couple turns. When you die, you're returned to the title screen where you then have to load from your last save, travel back to where you were, and re-watch any cutscenes, which are unskippable. Upgrading weapons doesn't appear to actually work (it acted like it worked once; at least it consumed the material, but didn't actually do anything, but any other attempted upgrades don't do anything at all), and the 'talismans' do not make it clearly known what exactly it is they do.If only this game had a couple quality of life improvements such as simply being able to skip a cutscene, I'd rate it higher, but the gameplay and mechanics feel stuck in the past.

Empty Case
The case was damaged up front, which isn't a major problem. For some reason the case is in English. The big problem? It was just a case. No game was included. That paper is a minimanual, so not a download code. There was no game cartridge at all. $70 for an empty, damaged, case.

Not worth the money or time...
Got this on PS4 and it's the same on the Nintendo Switch.... It boils down to it's just not a good RPG .. if you like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, or FF ... you don't want to waste your money on it, ..Predictable story, no challenge, no real grinding, and it's a quick game, beat it in like 3 days of playing and paid 30 dollars for it, so when i saw the price for this, i didn't want someone to waste their money...

Bon jeu.
