I never used a professional thickness gauge so I cannot do a comparison with a respect to ergonomy or it's size (I guess it can be smaller or thicker) but for occasional use I think it does a very good job and is a good value for money. Also it comes with a rubber case (does not cover the tip) and a pouch which can protect it from occasional drop.

I use mine for every job I do and definitely recommend it over the cheaper ones. The cheaper ones are good but if you can splurge a bit more, this is definitely worth the higher price! comes with a bunch of accessories too!

I can use a magnetic paint gauge than is more accurate than this piece of junk!

This one actually works and for a lot less than most others on the market.

I was hesitant to buy this paint thickness gauge at first, because nobody had reviewed this gauge. Since they offered 30 day free return, I tried it out and decided to keep it. This little gauge is awesome! It's very accurate and even recognizes if the paint has a zinc (non-magnetic metal) coating. It will literally pay for itself throughout its life. It's a must have if you are an auto detailer or auto reconditioning specialist. And even if you don't work with cars, this tool is extremely useful when purchasing a car. I always check the paint with a thickness gauge to see if the car's been in an accident or repainted or anything suspicious. As soon as car salesmen see me using this gauge on the cars on their lot they immediately know I mean business and that I'm not going to settle for something less that's been repainted or doesn't have its original paint and clear coat. They immediately take me to their best cars and try to avoid even walking by their other cars. I also like that it has an auto shut off feature to prevent the batteries from draining and came with a rubber cover to protect the gauge. I definitely recommend it, great price and packed with features.

Great product comes with thickness calibrations shims that help you calibrate the gauge. Large display with backlight helps you see the measurement easily. Comes with a rugged case, In the event you drop it the case will protect it. Very precise measuring when compare to another meter twice its price. When buying a used car this tool will save you a lot of money, just by checking the paint thickness you can know if any bodywork was done on the vehicle. Overall, very good product.
