Love & the turmoils therein
A really well made film depicting young love between two young guys at college and the past comes creaping into their lives, embroiled with complications. Granted it has a streak of Bollywood creeping into the format of story adaptation and the likelihood of these events coming to fruition are highly unlikely. However, the freshness from their first meeting to its subsequent development, imbued with a natural development bereft of deception of any affiliated homophobic references is so compelling and magical; that I would very much like to watch this again in the near future. I have prime, so that's not an issue compared to buying, which I would highly recommend. Both parents are open minded and encourage their sons' emotional development without setting barriers or constraints. How often to you see of hear this in reality? It's a breath of fresh air of how a potentially 'open minded' aught to be tolerant at all levels of accepting all genres without predispositions and stereotypes.Loved it.

Love conquers all
This is a great movie. It proves you don't need sex and nudity to make a good gay love movie. When he was 6 Ben's brother was killed after being hit by a car in the supermarket car park. Some years later Ben plays a ball game with his friends where he is the star of the game. On the opposing side is Christopher who like Ben, is a handsome teenager living on campus. Ben asks for his number and thus begins a true love affair. The two are inseparable. For summer break they decide to go to stay at Christopher's mum's house but before they leave Ben's house, a secret is revealed that could destroy what the 2 boys have so Christopher chooses to hide what he knows. As soon as they arrive at Christopher's mum's house things go bad. His mum learns Ben's surname and then confesses to him that she was driving the car that killed his brother. This causes all kinds of problems and splits the boys up.But can their feelings really keep them apart? Should they be made responsible for something that happened that was not their faults?I won't say anymore because it will ruin the ending but i will say buy this film watch it and watch it again. It's really worth it!

Grown up gay story that sort of works
Benny is a gay child of Mexican parents and has just started at the University of Akron as a freshman. He gets roped into playing a game of American Football with his ‘besty’ girlfriend and after he meets, the rather dashing, Christopher. They like each other straightaway and just go for it.The fly in the lovebirds ointment is that deep in the past of their respective mothers there was a tragic incident that will now become a barrier to them being able to stay together. Now that is the synopsis and there are some things that I really liked. There is no homophobia or overly dramatic ‘coming out’ scene which marks this as ‘progressive gay cinema’ apparently. I just thought it was dealing with other issues – and it really is – their sexuality is just happenstance to the plot. The issues that the two boys face would just as equally be a problem had they been a boy and a girl. The issue with the film itself is how it is all worked out. You will love or loathe this one. This is not a sexathon either and the bedroom scenes I am being a bit generous with my marking but that is because they all do a more than above average job and I quite liked the whole thing.

Fine
Some good acting, and, as others have pointed out, good to see that the main characters are two young gay guys who are already happily out. BUT the plot is utterly unbelievable, which matters because the psychological drama utterly depends on it in turn. Yet the framing for what follows is so far-fetched that even Marvel flicks would struggle to get viewers to suspend their disbelief. Consequently, the whole narrative edifice of the film collapses. What's left is cute guys having families with psycho-drama, and that is not really enough to make for terribly interesting cinema. So, while I don't regret having watched this, I can't say that my life would have suffered and great loss had AKRON passed me by.

Dont think i have ever had so many emotions at once in one film
well lets start off wit what i did not like and it was not about the film but my own wanting to know and that's the part at the end ( i hate when people give away the ending so cryptic i will try to be )i always think films like this end to soon i want to know more i want to know what happens i want to see the life's after the cameras stop rolling.to me the acting was good i felt the story and the emotions love heart ache loss and love again had one or two funny moments not a lot as not a comedy film but little things that i found amusing. in a over all a good film worth a watch. i do love a romance film and this ticked 99% of my boxes 1% no one has made that film yet to get 100% :P

Lovely story - well worth a watch!
While centred around a tragic event this is a lovely movie, and while the young couple were great, what really stood out for me were the parents - I wish there were more parents like them out there! Well worth watching!

An intimate and intelligent gay love film
I really enjoyed this film for both its emotional and uplifting parts! It was refreshing to watch a gay movie that wasn't about "coming out" for once. The already established acceptance from both families allowed space for other issues which is what gay movies should all be about...just like how straight movies have always been! The romance between the two super cute guys was very desirable! I wish they focused more on issues within mature gay relationships instead...but maybe that's what a possible sequel could offer? ;)

So good I wanted more
Finally a film where the two ‘gays’ are already happily out (being gay isn’t the problem) and don’t want to kill themselves, take drugs or sleep around (apparently that’s all we do). It’s a fantastic story about love between two college guys, which becomes a problem when a secret tragedy is revealed. It literally has nothing to do with being gay, which is refreshing. It kills me to knock a star off but I do so ONLY because the story hinges on a slightly too convenient premise (chances of meeting this person are extremely slim - you’ll see when you watch it). Otherwise, one of the best gay films I’ve seen, even if the acting could do with some polish.
