The Wood Mounted Black Arkansas stones are the same quality stones that come in the wood boxes. The difference is this stones are permanently glued to a wood base. The result is the same quality sharpening stone at a lower price. The savings is in the cost of lapping the second side of the stone and making the box. The wood base holds the stone in place while sharpening. The Black Arkansas is an extra-fine stone and was traditionally used to sharpen dental tools, surgeons scalpels and straight razors. The Black Arkansas Stone is available in 6", 8" and 10" size and is an exception value. Made in Arkansas, USA.

Use after knife has been sharpened
When used carefully after the blade has been sharpened it puts a very sharp edge on it. It feels very close to surgical. I carry several of my knifes for self defense and I want them as sharp as I can get them. I like the smoother edge this gives.
