Character dictates story in the best way...
Wilson is Clowes working in a new format and doing so beautifully. The story is told one page at a time, utilizing different inking and coloring styles (meaning that Wilson is not rendered in one consistent and immediately recognizable style, and yet is always recognizable). And while there certainly is a story, Clowes' focus is on what I think he does best. Namely, he reveals deeply familiar aspects of American (and human) character - through attention to illustrative detail, coupled with amazing dialogue - that are immediately familiar and virtually never discussed. He shows us who we are, with all our flaws, and yet somehow does not leave the reader/viewer despising his character. (At least in this case, and at least for me.)Buy this book and spend some time with it. Really.

Satisfying Read
This is a refreshingly human book that satisfies the eyes as well as the mind. The conceit of one page story vignettes to move the larger story along is really cool and as a cartoonist, I enjoy how Clowes switches through different styles to accentuate mood or to be more comical. There are so many themes and emotions that Wilson explores and in the end, you identify with and feel his experience. It's right up there with my Will Eisner collection as story and art.

Pessimism pervades the weirdo life of Wilson
Pessimism pervades the weirdo life of Wilson. I enjoyed the exploratory art of the book, never settling into one style, and Wilson was an endearing if sociopathic character throughout. This would be an amazing indie comedy if someone took the helm, but the book is short and leaves much to be desired for this reason. The scenarios are quite different from one another and the crude interactions of Wilson to strangers is a delightful gag. Clowes delivers another inventive title for comics writing.

Como las lentejas.
El Daniel Cloweso es como las lentejas: las tomas o las dejas. Pero esto en concreto es más "para todos los públicos" que otras cosas suyas.
