Let’s keep this simple, something the ad for this product has trouble doing. This is a replacement splash guard for an in-sink garbage disposer. There are two reasons you would buy it – as a replacement for an identical one that comes standard on certain brands of disposers if that one somehow got damage, or to convert the type of guard many other brands use, a type often called a starburst.PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONMy new disposer brand is Frigidaire, a name not often associated with garbage disposers. That’s not their main business and the unit itself is actually made by Electrolux. It, like most disposers sold these days, is the type that that has a rubber flapper just inside the drain hole that is meant let garbage fall into the grinding section and let water flow freely whether the motor is running or not. Unfortunately for all of its niceties the fatal flaw on this model is that the flapper is what they call a starburst, it is an essentially flat piece of rubber with a tiny hole in and six slightly larger holes around it with a slit cut between them. Most people don’t like this design because even without trash in it the water backs up because it can’t drain fast enough and with trash you have to mash into the drain with a fork or spoon but hopefully not your finger.THE SOLUTIONThis design, while not unique to the product I am reviewing, goes about it a little differently. First off the center hole is larger so water can drain more naturally. Second, other than the center hole the rest of the piece is solid rubber, but very flexible, and molded in such way that there are five triangular slides that let waste immediately flow into the drain without backing up.YES OR NOAt only about six bucks this splash guard needs zero installation skills, it just pops into place in about 10 seconds and fits just as snugly and securely as the original. Once you use it you will never see yourself going back to the starburst design. There are a lot of companies selling guards that look like this but they may not be as flexible, or maybe they are better, I can’t try them all. I can say that this one works and I am very happy with it and believe it earns a full five stars.

I can not fairly review this.
This product is one of many I purchased and none of them fit our disposal unit. They have all been either just a bit too small or too large.

Quickly drains!
This worked exactly as I hoped it would!I recently upgraded my garbage disposal to an American Standard 1.25 hp disposal, which had one major problem… the splash guard didn’t let water drain very well. It was a nearly flat piece of rubber with a hole in the middle and six slits extending from there to other holes near the edge. I tried trimming the holes and slits, but it still held water. I saw another reviewer who had the same problem with a different garbage disposal brand, so I decided to give this a try. I’m so glad I did. My sink nor longer backs up when I just run water and it drains pretty quickly after dumping a pot of water into it.If you have a three bolt disposal with drainage issues, I would recommend trying this product.
