Must Have!!
Must have for teachers! As a Kindergarten teacher of 23 years, this is exactly what I’ve been searching for! I HIGHLY recommend for new and veteran elementary teachers. (Middle and high school teachers could create amazing lessons with these books as well.). Seriously teachers- it’s worth your classroom money!!The book has 45!! titles, organized into categories like “Names are Important” and “Traditions are Important”. Vera suggests stopping/pausing points for each book for discussion with students. My FAVORITE part of this book are the interviews with teachers from around the country and the note-taking pages provided! I honestly am using this book as my own personal professional development and am telling all the teachers I know how valuable this resource is!

Great book recommendations
I try to find diverse and important books for kindergarten, but with this book, I felt like I had a treasure trove of recommended books based on themes that I’d like to get into with my scholars. I’ve been reading “The Knowledge Gap” by Natalie Wexler and have come to understand that content-rich books and read aloud that help introduce new vocabulary and inform students on events that they can later connect to other historical timelines, etc. builds deeper understanding and ultimately helps them build better comprehension and become better readers.

A must have!
This is a must have for every teacher. I love to read aloud pictures books to my students each day and this work by Vera helps supplement our read aloud moments into something more meaningful. It’s one thing to read aloud a book and another thing to pose questions and inviting students/your own kids to add to the conversation. Administrators: if you’re looking for a PD book for your staff, this is it.

Everyone Should Have This
I am very glad I bought this. A friend is reading as part of a professional book club and suggested it as it has a lot of good titles and ideas for teaching around diversity and inclusion. I look forward to having this be a part of my equity team at school.

Something for educators to build upon
As a teacher, though it is made with elementary students in mind, it can totally be used for middle school students, change the books! This is an instrumental in an ELA block or an SEL block! Excellent job Vera!
