Jimmy Greaves: The One and Only

No holes barred
An honest take on a great footballers life. Is a bit diary like and there are bits taken from other books ghost written about Greaves by the same author which I personally found irritating. It hasn’t been proof read very well either, out of context words and spelling mistake can be found.Still a great read though if you’re a football lover.

Enjoyable, but not as good as anticipated!
There have been a lot of books written about Jimmy Greaves (indeed, Natural only came out last year).I also have a number of books by Norman Giller, which I have enjoyed reading. I was hoping this was going to be the definitive Greavsie biography, especially in view of the friendship between the two of them for so many years, and that it is the “authorised biography”. However, in reading the book I realised it contains large chunks of script that I have read before, word for word, in other biographies. To be fair to Giller, he does point this out in each case. There are some nice little stories in there, but no great revelations - there probably aren’t any more to come out. To that extent, I would rate Natural (by David Tossell) as the best biography of my all-time football hero, who my brother and I worshipped on our trips to the Lane in the 1960s

Don't believe all you read
Big fan of Jimmy but this is mostly repeats of old interviews and publications. Also factually wrong in some cases.

The definitive Book on Greavsie
I have always been a life long fan of Jimmy Greaves. Its written by a good friend and factually correct. Its full of interesting facts, like Jimmy's description of his famous goal in 1965, in a 5-1 winning against Man Utd. Me and the wife were at that game. This is an excellent labour of love, unlike another book I purchased which could not spell his name, calling him Greeves !! I leave you to judge.
