Q: Can this be used to replace the hunter 24v 50-60hz heavy duty solenoids that you could also manually turn on/off? as i'm replacing 18yr old solenoids

Yes - all Hunter 24V solenoids are all the same and will work with any Hunter valve ever made.

Q: is it necessary to turn the power off to the system before changing one?

No. Just make sure that the moor is not on or will turn on while you are changing. However it is always a good practice to turn the system off before messing with the electrical parts. Eventhough the solenoid only works with DC.

Q: Have an older 28 zone hunter system. The older solenoids have 2 black wires. Is this the newer replacement solenoids I should use?

You may not have Hunter valves then. If they are not Hunter valves then these won't work. Sometimes red wires will look black from years of being in a valve box. If you 100% sure you have Hunter AC solenoids then these will work.

Q: Will this solenoid work on SRV valve?

Hi. Yes it will. It is the same solenoid. May I suggest that you buy an entire new valve and replace the entire top part including the solenoid. That is what I ended up doing and it is was much easier and will last another 10 years.
