A perfect light for reading, sturdy base. I use a l00 w/Led bulb which works well.

I purchased this lamp in 2012 and at the time I hesitated because I don't like to buy furnishings sight unseen. What appealed to me about this pharmacy lamp was the fact that it could take up to a 100 watt bulb and it had adjustable height. I wanted it for next to my reading chair. I remember how heavy the box was when the package arrived. The base of this lamp is seriously weighted. The shade can be adjusted to shut off glare from the bulb and the entire top of the lamp swivels. I use mine directly over the chair when reading and I nudge the shade away when using my iPad. The interior of the metal shade (at least on my lamp) has a shiny silver lining to reflect the light. The cord does come from the pole of the lamp rather than from the base, and that could be a turn off if your lamp is away from the wall, but mine is between a bookcase and the chair so I don't really notice the cord. I chose the bronze color and it blends into its environment with the bookcase behind it.Because I've had my lamp for seven years now - and use it daily, moving the shade back and forth as desired - I had to have the lamp rewired last year but it is a good product so I didn't mind the expense. I realize I purchased my lamp many years ago, and the product may have changed in the interim, but if you read the more current reviews - and if they are still good - then I think you will be pleased with this purchase.

Part E, the part that makes it adjustable, was not included. They included a note that extra parts are included in the opposite side of the packing material so I tore up the Styrofoam trying to find it. Because of this I don’t know how I would repackage it to return without going out and purchasing some sort of bubble wrap. Part F doesn’t fit into Part D, but I think I can make it work with some duct table. Not only will it be beautiful, but it will also be too short

JUST RECIEVED, couldn't wait to write a review ! Just assembled it, used it, and it's perfect ! I had read all the reviews of this and others, and I'm chuckling at some of them, because I almost didn't buy it ! I wanted a light that could double as a piano lamp ( I have a console) and also as a reading lamp. Well this lamp does both. Easy to assemble, 10 min,( I'm a 67 year old woman) and it lights up my piano book pages and keys perfectly, and I only used a 60 watt CFL bulb. So easy to move up and down. It's also very attractive, a dark brown with a few distressed look dark brass accent lines. Some reviews said they didn't like how the cord hangs down, and is visible from the lower half of the lamp, but that doesn't bother me. (One could always use plastic tie wraps to hold the cord close to the pole.) Also, the bottom is nice and heavy, so happy I spent a little extra & bought this lamp !

At a quick glance this appears to be a nice lamp. But after mere moments of inspection, you quickly tell the cheap quality if this lamp. This flimsy lamp will not stand straight no matter my struggles. The bronze finish is just missing from some bits of it. The shade is made of extremely thin metal. The whole thing wobbles at a small touch. The entire lamp also seems too small. As if it was shrunk to 3/4s of its original size. The pipes that make up the lamp are much too thin, and look cheap. The lamp is also too short for me to see any use of it. I bought it to use as a reading lamp at the side of my bed, however at its highest setting it gets right to my eye level. The bulbs are another thing, it recommends you only use the regular round bulbs when it would only look good with one of the long straight bulbs. Another issue I had was with the cord. I cannot see why it doesn't run down the larger of the tubes after the transition, instead I am left with a cheap cord fluttering around the lamp. I would not recommend this lamp to anyone, and expected a bit more. This lamp is simply over priced. All in all, I regret this purchase and suggest you look elsewhere, reader.
