Good info on an obscure subject
A good volume on an often overlooked subject. The information is not cross referenced by type of firearm so it can be difficult to find what you want. The inspectors are simply listed alphabetically. Still, the information is there if you dig.

Invaluable for antique gun collectors
At first, I thought too much writing, BUT, when I decided to check the symbols and letters on my antique swords and guns, the book was the BEST. Not only does it pinpoint the time frame, but who the inspectors were, their life and history of where they were employed. If you collect swords or antique arms, you can check through this book and find a wealth of information. Ames Civil War swords, for example, the book will break down when an inspector worked there, moved to another factory, etc. When buying an antique, I can check to see if the proper inspector mark is on the item, plus see how they appeared (block, scripts etc). Excellent book reference
