Frank & Co: Conversations with Frank Zappa 1977–1993 Paperback – February 22, 2022

It doesn't read like a mystery, simply day in the life, of a young foreign journalist, who met with and interviewed FZ repeatedly.

If you are a fan of Frank Zappa buy this book. Frank very rarely, if ever, lets his guard down with anyone let alone during interviews. This is that time. He becomes friends with Co and grants him really unguarded interviews that are more interesting that any interviews with Frank by anyone. I put this book above every other book about Frank including Franks own autobiography. You see sides of Frank that no one else ever reported. This is a must buy for any hardcore fan of Franks, cant recommend it strongly enough.

This book is very interesting and informative. I am enjoying it as I am huge FZ nerd.My only gripes are that the author should've edited the conversations down to a more readable text. There's a lot of half-finished sentences and subject switches mid sentence which can be distracting and even confusing at times. Plus the interviewer jumps around from subject to subject almost like he's not even listening to Frank's answers white little to no follow up questions. It's bizarre.Also as English is Co's second language his sentence structure when asking Frank questions is a bit "Yoda"-ish, backwards-forwards and difficult to follow at times.But if you're a Zappa freak and you wanna dig real deep....then this is a fabulous book.

Casual Zappa fans or rock fans in general may not be as absorbed by this book. The author is obsessed with Zappa's music and knows it front to back. While the strong suit of this book is the exclusive interviews, not just with FZ, but with Flo & Eddie, Captain Beefheart and others, a good slice of the conversation is about minutiae that the author is curious about, but which most people would not be interested in. Who did the guitar solo on that obscure song that was never released? What does this word mean? Etc, etc. Also included are irrelevant exchanges with FZ's management, details about when they will meet, etc. That said, there are many examples of FZ's views on the music biz, politics, censorship, his contemporaries, and so on. It's also interesting to hear from some of the musicians about how they were paid or treated by FZ, and other insights into the workings of the music industry.There are typos galore, and there is no index. An editor would have improved the book overall.

Co is a Fan, Enthusiast, conaisseur, and a great interviewer, that has the ability of extract the better from a conversation. A must read Book, specially to those that want to have a better understand of th FZ proficuous career. Great Book!!!

I don’t get frank zapper but my husband has followed him for many years and this book is brilliant

Das ist auch so ein Buch für Fans, echte Auskenner uns solche , die es werden wollen. Bin durch ein Youtubevideo darauf gestoßen: Steve Vai spricht dort mit dem Autor Co de Kloet. Sehenswert.Das Buch ist eine echte Entdeckung.

Co de Kloet (1959) è un musicista, compositore, produttore e personaggio radiofonico olandese. Questo interessante libro origina da materiale unico su Frank Zappa, basato su oltre 25 ore di colloqui registrati su nastro tra il 1977 e il 1990. Co de Kloet e Frank Zappa sono stati amici per molti anni. Co, esperto di musica zappiana, nel libro ricorda come all'età di 12 anni rimase colpito da Freak out! e poi nel 1973, aveva 14, vide il suo primo concerto di Zappa e da allora non l'ha lasciato più. Con Zappa si conobbero nel 1977 e Co si guadagnò non solo la fiducia ma anche l'amicizia di Zappa. Frank & Co è più di un libro sulla musica di Zappa.
