Excellent vacuum, but...
This is an excellent vacuum FOR THE $$, a great vacuum generally, but a couple minor drawbacks that might be worth a star-deduction, per below:The Good: 1) suction is excellent; 2) lightweight and easy to carry/hold; 3) easy bag change; 4) quality of construction/materials is high; 5) exhaust air is less forceful than the other Oreck canisters so you are not blowing dirt/dust around before collecting itNot-so-Good: 1) shoulder-strap is cheap, too short (I replaced it w/an old laptop bag strap = MUCH better); 2) the short, stretchy hose is stiff when trying to vacuum ceiling fixtures, etc; 3) hose needs a 'shaped' handle - hose/extension connection is awkward, hard to grip; 4) attachments need a more secure connection - the extension tube AND attachments will disconnect frequently, the tube falling on a foot hurts AND can dent a wood floor/piece of furnitureSummary: I have found nothing better for the money, but some design elements could use some attention; however, the value + suction + ease of use = excellent, to me.

Portable and does a great job
Thank you, Oreck for making a good quality, affordable, and handy portable vacuum cleaner. I am very pleased that the cleaner comes with needed attachments for floors, crevices, furniture dusting, ceiling fan, and pet hair. I appreciate the disposable bags as I really dislike emptying dusty vacuum containers. I am also impressed that your Amazon website sells parts to keep the cleaners functioning into the future. The price, disposable bags, and vacuum parts is what helped me make a decision to buy your product. One word of warning: When using a portable vacuum, please cross the strap onto the opposite shoulder or put the vacuum down when doing things other than vacuuming. I did not do that so when I leaned and tilted downward to unplug the vacuum, the strap slipped off my shoulder; the cleaner landed onto my foot and it hurt so bad I had to lie down. Luckily, I only injured one toe. I am now into week 2 without the ability to wear covered shoes because the toe is swollen and it hurts too much to put any pressure on it -- like shoes. I live in Hawaii, and the weather is good, so I am fortunate that I can report to the office with slipper-like sandals without looking like a complete odd-ball. Other than the toe accident, I highly recommend this Oreck vacuum cleaner.Over 2 years later 09/2022; the vacuum is still working! And I never dropped it on my toe again. :-)Almost 4 years later 10/2023; I am still using the same Oreck portable vacuum cleaner! I am thankful.08/31/2024: Vacuum still works! Keeping apartment clean :-)

Tight on space? Great buy! You'll be more likely to vaccuum more often!
Every vacuum has it's minor annoyances and the two fixes I'd suggest for this small and mighty vacuum would probably put it one step closer to the Dyson price point. It's light, powerful, and great for those who don't have a lot of storage space. The bags that come with it are small but are excellent in quality. I can be a bit frugal and we basically have it for the cats in the studio, and because it was primarily filled with cat hair I was able to pluck it out and was good to go for another fill up.Two changes I would suggest are: retractable power cord and a single 360 degree motion wheel that allows the unit to spin side to side as you vacuum under things that make it difficult to hold onto.

I'm writing this review while I rest from using this vacuum
I bought this to replace a Meile that had been ruined from suctioning up cat pee (don't ask). So I bought this for the inside and an even less expensive vacuum (a Bissel zing canister) for the cat area so there is no cross-contamination. Perhaps I was spoiled by my delightful experience with the Meile, a bagged, rolling canister vacuum of the best quality which I highly recommend (and which I would buy again if I could afford to).Let me just say that if you are a young, healthy, fit person with no back problems and a house with nothing but bare, hard surface floors, it's perfect for you. My favorite is the upholstery attachment, it is fabulous. The dusting brush is also nice. I already had a very nice brush attachment for the hardwood floors, but the floor attachment that comes with the vacuum is only so so, kind of scratchy for hardwood so I haven't used it but once, and there is no attachment included for area rugs so you're on your own there, struggling a bit with what's in the box.The canister itself is small and light enough but so awkward and unwieldy, its like carrying the least comfortable luggage/overnight bag you've ever owned and it keeps slipping off your shoulders while you're trying to work so you cannot do anything with two hands, you have to constantly be struggling with it and the task you're doing. God forbid you drop this thing in your bare feet, which happens a lot more than you'd like as you struggle with keeping it on your shoulder or in one hand. NO Wheels. I have a small house with hardwood floors and a few area rugs (900 sf) and I cannot finish the entire house without resting. It kills my back, it hurts my elbow because the hose is short and tight so I have to work too hard to extend it to vacuum. I cannot set it down on the floor to work, because again, no wheels, and the hose is so tight and short that the vacuum just falls over on your feet, or it drags across the floor scratching everything. I'm middle-aged and am relatively fit, but even if I were young and fit I'd give this thing a low score. I have to keep using it because I can't afford to keep experimenting with new products, but I want others to know that unless you are very fit and you have a tiny house or a little studio apartment with no storage space and nothing but bare floors, this is NOT really the right product for you. Find something with wheels and better attachments.Suction: awesomeAttachments: great upholstery and duster attachmentsEase of Use: must be an athlete with no back or joint problemsBest Conditions for use: tiny house or studio with NO rugs and NO storage (stores in a Trader Joe's cloth shopping bag and hangs in the coat closet)Am finishing the rest of the house now, not looking forward to it. :(

Horrible product. I must have used it just couple of times with in the 6months in our sesonal house and the suction is gone. It will only work with empty bag and after using it in one room the you have to change the bag if you want to continue vacuum.Seller not helpfull at all!! Won’t take it because it’s after the return period. Do not buy!!! Waste of money!!
