Q: Will this fit a child? My son is 6 and wants desperately wants this cotume for halloween.

I bought this for myself, an adult and there is no way it would fit a 6 year old unless they have a childrens size. Really cute costume and loved it. Have to be standing up all the time to get the full appreciation of it. Hope this helps.

Q: Does the part where your actual feet go cover your shoes on top or go all the way around your shoes like a sock?

Just covers shoes on top...there is an elastic band that goes under your shoes to “keep it in place.”

Q: will it fit a 40" waist ?

Probably, but don't bother. Mine came unfinished. The legs of the costume are just black sleeves without any pants or shoes on them and they were stitched in a way that they don't hang around the neck of the bear I'm piggy backing on, they stick out of a random spot so it doesn't really create the illusion.

Q: What is the best material to stuff the legs with?

We simply used crumpled up newspaper. Lightweight and it did the trick!
