I bought this specifically to keep in a compact car for Winter emergencies. Had the chance to use it and it worked exactly as desired.Got the car stuck on a plow berm and had to dig it out. The shovel itself comes in its own little nylon bag and the whole thing is really light and compact (which is especially important in a smaller vehicle) .Putting it together was easy. Just press the springloaded buttons and snap the pieces together (which I was able to easily do with gloves on).Two of the main reasons I chose this collapsible shovel in particular:1) it has a longer handle than most of the other options, which is a huge plus. Don't have to bend over as much, and it also allows me to easily reach/dig further under the car.2) the collapsible USGI shovels have a fairly stronge hinge (but a much shorter length than this shovel), but as seen in Amazon reviews, the cheap Chinese made shovels have pretty fragile/unreliable folding hinges. This design doesn't have a folding hinge.I used it to dig myself out, and the shovel worked great in the typical mix of compacted snow and ice in the berms/ridges that the city plows leave behind. Even chiseling through some of the more solid chunks didn't faze this shovel.Once I dug my car out, taking it apart was just as easy. Although the black coating was scraped off the bottom front edge of the shovel blade, the shovel held up great.It may not be the best choice for hardpacked dirt (a USGI shovel, or the Cold Steel Spetznaz or Trench shovels would be stronger, but as mentioned, those are much shorter), but as an emergency compact snow shovel, this thing is GREAT!

This is a convenient lightweight collapsable aluminum snow shovel. Seems well made and can be assembled so it's long enough to give some decent leverage while shoveling. The wide flat soft metal blade might not be suitable for breaking earth or thicker ice, and heavy materials such as rocks or mud might test the shaft a bit too much. However, it looks to be suitable for snow, sand or light soils which is my intended use. This will go into my car for those days when the snow piles up and I need to dig it out when away from home.The nylon bag that comes with the shovel acts as an organizer to keep things from rolling around loose inside your vehicle. This should make a nice addition to your automotive winter survival kit for folks in the snowbelt states.

I ordered this because I needed a snow shovel that won't hold so much snow that I'll overload my shoulder following a surgery I had in August. This fits that bill nicely.Others have stated it's a bit loose but I actually like that because it tells me it's less likely to have the pieces become stuck together when snow packs in and I'll be able to disassemble it and stow it in the pouch back in my SUV when I'm done using it. Yes, the locking tabs are a bit stiff which means to me they're quality and should last a long time even if I have to use a tool like a key to push them in when my arthritic hands are cold and not wanting to work right.I like the length of the handle cuz I won't need to bend over and the head size being smaller is perfect because I won't over do it quickly making it easier for me to move more snow over a long period than I would be able to if moving more snow right away.Definitely recommend this for keeping in your vehicle and for use at home, especially if your back and arms aren't as strong as they used to be.Remember, when you're doing physical labor as an older person or someone with physical limitations, fast is slow, slow is fast.

I ordered this snow shovel for my daughter, and was pleasantly surprised at what I received. Thinking that on occasion, some products ordered from Amazon really aren't built they way they should have been, I was a bit skeptical about this snow shovel. I was really surprised how well made it was, and how it was constructed. The handle fit well together, and with the Metal shovel end, it seemed that it would be good for shoveling snow. It's compact enough, when broken down in several parts, and placed in the carrying bag that accompanied the order, to easily fit in the trunk of a vehicle, and it could be put in the backseat floorboard, should one need it immediately. I certainly recommend this shovel.

Fleshing out the emergency kit for the back of my car in the Northeast and was pleased to find this collapsable emergency shovel. I selected it because, unlike most other shovels that are only 36-38" long, this one is a full 47" long, enough for an adult to use comfortably. I was surprised by how light the package is, and the shovel assembled easily in 4 parts with pushbutton releases. I was able to make the connections a tad more snug by putting 1 strip of electrical tape (2 is too much!) along one or two sides of each male connection, then putting a couple wraps of electrical tape up at the end of the join where the pipe flares back out. Comes with a canvas backpack-type bag, which is convenient for keeping all the pieces in one place. Of course, I will have to report back when I try it in the snow for real.
