Mostly nice
Works fine. Took apart to lubricate. Found a piece of oily yarn used as the "seal" for the handle/base pivot. I put an o-ring in there. The yarn would have actually worked to keep dust out with minimal friction. My old AXA tool holders fit it, as they should. The fit of the nut on the through stud is very loose. (M14x1.5). This is loosened and tightened frequently. It is so loose that I think there is limited engagement, and it might wear and strip after a while. I reused my old one , from a piston type tool post. I might ask Shars for another. Forgot to check if it is the nut, the stud, or both. When fully in the "loose" position, the handle almost blocks one side- if I try to put on my tool holder that has a knurl on the one end, it hits the handle and almost won't go on. I might drill/tap another handle hole about 20 degrees off of where the original is to fix this. Will wait to see how annoying that is. The handle threads are 8x1.25. If the handle becomes loose, the handle force would be a significant cantilevered load on the threads, I think they'd break. Doesn't mean they are bad, but it does mean make the handle tight, and make sure it stays that way. Maybe I'll loctite that. When tightening, the handle doesn't feel as positive as my old piston type, but I think it is locking the tool holder more tightly. The increased mechanical advantage of this screw/wedge design makes it take a few more degrees to tighten than the cam/piston type. I have used Aloris and Dorian wedge type tool posts, but can't remember exactly how they felt. Maybe the same. This may also change with use and a little beneficial wear. So, my only real complaint is the sloppy stud/nut fit.
