Quicken 2017: The Official Guide

I've used Quicken for years. After my credit union upgraded their banking software, including no longer connecting to quicken, I was not a happy customer. I tried other software but none was satisfactory for me. When my credit union finally reestablished the connection I found my accounts were an absolute mess. My son had purchased the 2016 book and found it invaluable. After discussing what he has been able to do I purchased this one. Not only do I have a better understanding of how quicken works I have expanded how I use it to include the some of the planning functions, tracking our mortgage/other debt etc., and I'm not done yet.

The book is clearly laid out in chapters that cover the various operations in Quicken 2017. I like the suggestions boxes - very useful. It covers most, but not all, of the features of the version of Quicken that we use (Home & Business). It would be great if they would create this book, as is - with additional chapters on things included in specific packages, and, specifically, things that are included in the industry-specific Business packages. As is frequently the case with Quicken - you're on your own.

This is an excellent guide. Being new to Quicken I'm very glad I bought this book. I still needed to turn to online help for many issues, but the guide helps a lot to understand the organizational structure of Quicken. If you only have one checking account, a couple credit cards and a few bills to pay each month, you don't need this book. However if you intend to take advantage of the many other features of Quicken, then this guide is essential. A few criticisms - the businesses and rental property modules aren't covered, and I don't think there is a version of the guide that does. A chapter on each of these would be a nice addition. Also I found the discussion of the different online connection methods to be a little disjointed. While the explanations are good, the discussion mixes all three methods making it somewhat confusing to follow. It would be clearer if there was a separate section limited to each method. All in all this book helps significantly in settling up Quicken.

Just got the book. Feel a bit cheated, honestly. I found a feature mentioned in the book, that I had not see. I couldn't find the feature, so I called Intuit and asked for their help. It is a feature only available to Windows users (and I use Mac). When I look at the book cover - it says NOW in the actual edition "Designed for Quicken U.S. Microsoft Windows Edition". This isn't what I ordered.

Took a gamble and bought used book. New was more than $24.00; used was a little more than $5.00. Anticipated seeing writing in margins, but no, book looks perfect. There is some yellowing of the paper because of its age. Book looks perfect to me. Very pleased.

HAVE BEEN USING QUICKEN SINCE 1994. I HAVE BEEN PURCHASING IT FROM AMAZON FOR THE LAST FOUR OR FIVE YEARS. "DANCE WITH THE ONE THAT BR'UNG YA'." QUICKEN IS A SUPER SOFTWARE PRODUCT. AFTER ALL INTUIT [QUICKEN] HAS BEEN DEVELOPING THIS AND IMPROVING UPON THIS PRODUCT FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS.

This book is confusing at best. It needs some simple pictures and a few more references in the index. All I wanted to do was to print an itemized report and I'm still trying to find out how to do it!!! I feel as if I wasted my money and I'm still trouble shooting on my own.

good Book .

For what it is, this book is very thorough and a complete reference for those using Quicken. This book will take you quite far in terms of getting set-up and running your finances in Quicken. Unfortunately, only 4 stars because (given that this is the self-proclaimed "Official Guide" - although I am not sure it is endorsed by Quicken), because 1.... Quicken Version 2018 is in the market (I bought this version), but there is no 2018 guide, so I was forced to buy the guide for the previous version (2017). The 2018 guide will only be published in May 2018. 2..... The guide is only available for Windows version and not the Mac OSX version (although very similar to Mac), 3..... The guide only covers U.S. functionality and not that of the Canadian version. In retrospect, more of these comments are leveled at the makers of Quicken, who provide no truen "Official Guide" more than at the Authors of the book, who have generally done a good job in putting together an informative, well-organized book.

Good manual but a little complicated for less than tech savvy users especially for Mac users
