Money well spent
My first “lion cage” I got an empire select kennel, And was looking for a more affordable option. This smonter is the same quality materials as my $900 kennel, but for a much more affordable price. I use two of these for my German Shorthair Pointers and one for my Cane Corso (Italian mastiff), and would highly recommend them for large dogs. The lock is what is the difference between the more expensive kennel, and a smart dog will be able to take their tongue and push the lever, but just zip tie / caribeaner the thing if that is the case. I have not had any issues. I also put a blanket in the kennel so it’s easier on a dog’s feet than just standing on the grate alone. For puppies I just put the trays in the kennel until they are big enough. My picture shows the smonter kennel on the left, and the empire select on the right. I prefer the smonter because it has a top door as well, which I can open to feed dogs in conveniently. I have fostered almost 200 dogs and cats and would recommend the smonter over any other kennel due to price point and quality. Very easy to put together as well. Takes less than 5 minutes. Wheels make it convenient to move around as well.

Decent crate for monster hounds.
My lab literally chewed through two of those stupid plastic crates. We couldn’t even go anywhere because he had such bad separation anxiety. We took a chance on this crate and are decently pleased at this point. It was super easy to set up and place. My only gripe it the door latches are crap. We bought a $10 bike lock at Walmart and everything is golden, except for the lab, he’s white.

Couldn’t keep my lab in
Like others have mentioned this dog crate was no match for a lab and not nearly as durable as claimed. My dog actually sliced off a chunk of his gum gnawing off the Smonter label. He also nearly broke out of the side as he rammed against it so much he bent the side wall and loosened the bolts.***Update 11.6.18ZERO stars! Company sent me a new and “stronger” cage to replace the broken one. That one didn’t work either. My dog actually broke off a bar at the weld and bent the top of the cage to break out. They promised me my money back if this one didn’t work but now are saying they will only replace the broken parts. Don’t buy!

BUY IT
Just received the crate today!I purchased the largest size available (48in), my American bully pup loves it. He walks right in and hangs out in it. We usually have to struggle with him to get him in the cage. We had the typical wire kennels, he’d chew the plastic tray on the bottom, chew all the beds we stick in there, and most importantly ESCAPE. The tray sits underneath the floor of the kennel and provides a barrier so NO CHEWING 😍 also, if he needs to pee or poo, the urine will just fall right through the floor into the tray- easy cleanup!- so now basically he just enjoys the bed we placed in there (he’s already started chewing a hole) but the cage is great quality! My female even likes to walk inside and check it out she’s getting one next... it’s good to know she likes it.Now it’s just the test of time. Will he Houdini his way out? Or will he be trapped 👀 only one way to know.*also, I must add, the directions are a little too simple. It literally just tells you to assemble the cage with no real direction.... There’s 2 types of bolts provided, it’s easy to place the bolts in the wrong hole and almost have it together before you realize you need to take those bolts out and replace them with the correct ones. Also, the wrench provided is not the right size for the nuts. I don’t have many tools at home so I had to improvise 🙃 once the cage is together it looks amazing and is nice and sturdy.

Not appropriate for smart or aggressive dogs.
This crate is NOT SUITABLE for smart, sneaky, or aggressive dogs! We were looking for cheaper alternative to the AMAZING (but expensive) aluminum Grain Valley Dog crates that we have. This was not it. The SMONTER crate has 2 main problems. (1) While the bars are heavy--duty, the locks are not. These tiny, chintzy, aluminum slide locks can be EASILY manipulated by an intelligent dog. They just need to stick their paw out, and they can quickly knock the lock out of place and open the door. We have five dogs, and our smartest dog was able to pop this lock in less than a minute. (2) The bars of this crate are spaced about 2" apart. Our dog--aggressive dogs were able to stick their snouts into and out of the bars, and they started fighting through the crate! Luckily, I had saved the box. I packed up this dog crate and UPS picked it up the next day. AGain, if you have smart dog that must be contained, spend the money for a Grain Valley aluminum crate, the only crate I've ever owned that really is perfect for our dogs.
