Buy it, it’s worth it!!!
Brewers, this is amazing! Since the purchase, I have brewed six 5 gallon all grain batches from my kitchen. Mashing grains has never been easier or cleaner. The only reason I haven’t brewed more is that I’ve filled all my kegs. The process still takes about 4 hours from mash to final cleaning. Still, the Bluetooth functionality from your phone allows you to walk away and get other things done around the house.A couple of things to know:1. I have brewed from 7% beers to 5% beers, IBU’s from 25-70. For higher ABV beers, the mashing takes longer and for big hoppy beers, trub permeates the system. This unit can handle big beers, just make sure you run a good cleaner and sanitizer after each use.2. I use the hop spider rather than mesh bags or directly pitching the hops. I have not noticed any loss of hop flavor or bitterness. Quite a bit of trub makes it out of the spider, but it reduces the clutter around the pump filter and the machine runs more smoothly. I’ve also used the hop spider for other ingredients added for flavor.3. The grainfather website and app are amazing. They keep all your recipes on file and step you through the whole process from mash to drink. It’s a free database that records the OG and FG and finally ABV. It also helps calculate the style of beer you want, quantity of grains and hops for ABV, IBU, color and clarity.4. I brew at 4,500 ft altitude. Boil temp at this altitude is 206, not 212. I can adjust the grainfather to hit the boiling target I want. I would recommend placing the lid on the grainfather and covering the hole on top to increase the boil roll. This requires high temp gloves or pot holders to remove and replace the lid.5. The wort chiller is phenomenal! I can plug the blue cool line to my sink, run the red expel line back into the sink, turn on the pump and cool the wort from 206 degrees tp 65 degrees in 35 minutes. So amazing! This unit with the control box is totally worth the investment in time, quality of beer brewed, and experimentation. Brew on my friends!

A Must for the Grainfather if you live in the U.S.
I live in the US so we of course are limited to 110/120V. The Grainfather will do the trick without the graincoat but I never realized what a difference it would make until I purchased this. My boils are certainly more vigorous and the time to reach boil was cut down by about 25%. I typically brew indoors but I would certainly recommend this if you plan to brew outdoors in cold weather. Another added bonus is it protects you from the accidental burn from brushing up against the Grainfather in the middle of a boil! All I want now is for Grainfather to release the rolled edge bottom and top perforated plates for the 8 gallon model so that I can stop dealing with getting the pesky silicone gaskets!

More than a coat
OK, this product does exactly what it is supposed to do . Keeps your temps consistent and helps prevent scratches and small dents from happening. I used this in the colder months and decided I did not needed it when it got hotter. Then, the dog tried to lick the sweetness of the hot Grainfather, not good, but he learned a lesson. Then, the 3 year old touched it, not good, but he too learned a lesson. Then the wife had to make sure it was hot, not sure about her lesson yet. Bottom line is that if you have a Grainfathher Coat, you can prevent scratches and dents, heat faster, maintain temps, prevent vet and doctor bills, and maybe prevent a divorce...

Nice upgrade! Less power to mash and boil!
This was a nice addition to my Grainfather system. It is a custom fit that wraps around each part and Velcro’s into place. Popped right on to my rig and we were brewing! I haven’t put a meter to anything, but I would guess it helped reduce power use during the mash between 25-30%. Every bit counts! Clean up is easy if you wipe drips as they happen, or if your brew day becomes a wort-sloshing trainwreck you can always pop the seam and hose ‘er off. Also removable for faster chiller work or if you just want to admire your naked Grainfather.

Fits like a glove.
Fit like a glove. I didn't do an energy comparison but I expect it will keep boil time shorter at a minimum.

Perfect fit
The coat fit perfectly and took one.minute to install. I have no metrics on how much more quickly my water heats.

Helps with heating
It does help with heating for sure but it's kind of a pain too. One more thing to keep clean and you need to disconnect the control box to get it on and off. If you don't need it don't get it. If you need it, get it.

Works as advertised
This definitely speeds up boiling time, fits the Grainfather snugly and is easy to use and clean. Recommended for anyone using the Grandfather in a cooler/windy environment

Must have.
The 120V North American version of the Grainfather having less wattage than the 220V, the graincoat is a must to limit heat loss.
