The best there is at what he does....
Another Woverine classic, love those past stories have the original first edition comics. Been collecting since the late 70's as long as they keep making stories that good I'll still be there.

Overall this is a pretty good collection
Overall this is a pretty good collection. But the first 1/4 or so of the book almost ruins the whole experience. Jeff Matsuda is one of the worst comic artists of all time. That entire run is riddled with mistakes (Wolverine has four claws in one panel!) And typos galore. Not only that, but at the time Marvel was still trying to adhere to the comics authority. So what we're left with is an over abundance of forced "swear" words. If Wolverine had said "flamin" one more time I was going to send this whole flaming book to kingdom come. If you can make it past one of Wolverine lowest points, there are some great issues after that.

Epic Wolverine
Very good collection featuring Wolverine and several other Marvel superheroes.. one can get a glimpse of Wolverine's past and present relationships, as well as the turbulent times when he lost his Adamantium and then his mutant powers..

Could Be Sharper
The latest Wolverine Epic Collection (Volume 12 for you Merry Marvelites keeping track at home), actually represents the chronologically latest material collected under the Epic line to date, containing as it does issues from 1999-2000. Sadly, I didn't find said issues all that great, but at least it demonstrates the scope of the imprint. The big storyline in this volume revolves around the ol' Canucklehead getting his adamantium back after spending most of the decade without it. I won't spoil the details of that particular plotline, but it involves time travel, aliens, a major villain and plenty of fighting. As is often typical of later Marvel 'big stories', it is also part of a crossover event, The Twelve, and the other titles involved (mostly the main X-men titles of the time) are not included here. Instead, text summaries fill in the gaps, together with a recommendation to pick up some already published (non-Epic) trades if you want the full story. Presumably if the X-Men Epics get to the same period, they will collect the rest of the storyline, but until then, it's a passable solution.Elsewhere in the book, Wolvie tackles a variety of big-name foes, including the Collector, Galactus (!), Arnim Zola, MODOK and more. He also finds time to beat up half the Marvel Universe, notably the Hulk, as well as share a flashback special with Cable. It's all serviceable, but just seems a little flat compared to the character's more classic storylines. The vast majority of the issues here are written by Image co-founder Erik Larsen, and while he certainly makes sure there is plenty of action and angst in every one, his dialogue feels fairly clunky, and the permanently grouchy Logan often teeters over into being just plain unlikable. There's a variety of artists involved; Jeff Matsuda and Ron Garney, among others, put in solid work but the real star here is Leinil Yu, whose few issues are fabulously detailed as well as being extremely well-designed. If anything, he makes the other issues here look slightly lacklustre. The few extras here include variant and Wizard covers, a house ad and a page of original Yu art. This is certainly a volume for completists rather than casual fans, who would be better served picking up the already-published Volume 1 (Madripoor Nights) if they are after a Wolverine fix.
