We'll see how effective it is, but, design could be improved....
Someone else had loaned me a different type of humane mouse trap to use, and I liked it better than this version. Sadly, the trap I preferred...I can't find the brand name. With this here version from Motelmouse.com, the overall length of the trap is a bit short, so it doesn't give the poor little mouse very much room to move back and forth. Also, surely they could have easily added more air holes, to ensure the mouse has plenty of fresh air? Also, why does this trap only allow for the mouse to enter from ONE end? With the other trap I had, the overall trap was longer, it had more air holes, AND both ends of the trap could remain open, thereby allowing for more chance for a mouse to enter from either end.Lastly, the door we are to remove, in order to insert some bait/food, is a bit tricky to figure out how to lift off. Their directions of 'press inwards and up to open', really aren't that meaningful. They included a plastic brush and foam cleaner thing, although there was no explanation of what it was, or how to use it. I had to figure this out from some other source. As a tip for those who may be catching mice for their first time, it's my understanding that mice are very social animals and intelligent. As such, I was not interested in separating them from their family members. So over a few days I collected as many mice as I could in the traps, feeding them while they were in the traps, adding bits of paper so they could stay warm and create a little nest/bed for themselves, and then after three days, I took all the traps and released them all at once, in the woods.

It really works!
My husband and I were camping in our travel trailer (we hadn't taken it out in 4 months) when we discovered we had furry friends staying with us. (We didn't see them, we found droppings and heard squeaking). So when I got home I researched mice traps. Most of them were the kind that kill the mice. I saw this, and ordered it (I figured if it didn't work I would move on to the traps that zap them). I bought the large size because I really didn't know what kind of rodent we had. First day I put some peanut butter in the little tray thing. 3 hours later, a mouse was in there! (I always found that they came out late at night.). I actually drove it 2 1/2 miles away (my husband laughed at me but I have read that they can find their way back to their nest within a couple miles). One thing I would recommend is practicing opening the door to let them out before you set it. (The door is a little bit awkward to slide open when letting them loose). It's been 2 weeks so far and no more mice (we caught 4). Easy to use and easy to clean. I would recommend this!

Works well - but there is a problem with this humane concept
First this product works well at catching mice. I get one per overnight, with peanut butter on a piece of cracker sitting on the trigger plate. So I am giving it 5 stars. But there's a major problem with the whole live catch concept I didn't think about before I purchased - I didn't realize you have to release these little critters 2 miles away from your house or else they will just run back to the place they know. Releasing them in a drainage ditch at the end of the street is not enough. I was surprised by this information, and after googling some, I found peer reviewed scientific studies with marked mice that confirmed this. They have good memories, prefer their old house like homing pigeons, and can travel a mile per day.And even if they don't make it to your house they will probably go to a neighbors house. They are quite smart enough to seek out warm dry comfortable places. And I also feel guilty that I may simply be releasing mice that go to one of my neighbors. So the problem is - I simply can't drive miles out into the woods every morning to release one tiny mouse. It isn't practical before work in the morning, and it *especially* isn't practical in my area in the winter time when there's a foot of snow on the ground (which is probably just a cruel death penalty for the mouse anyway.) So, as effective as this product is, and as cute as these little critters are, I am regretfully now ordering snap traps for a quick humane kill. Because a quick kill is probably more humane than dumping house mice in a foot of snow in 0 degree weather, and more practical than simply playing rotating mouse motel with mice that just run back to my house. But if you are retired and have time to make a several mile journey out into the woods literally a part of your daily morning routine, then this product might be for you.

Humane way to get rid of mice
This was so easy to use. I put peanut butter on the back sliding part so it didn't get all over inside & put a small bit of bread inside with a penny taped to the back platform so it would release as soon as mouse stepped on it & trap the mouse & within hours I had this cute little guy. Took him to the city lake (see picture) & let him go free. Make sure you drop them off several miles from home & away from other homes so they don't run back to inside. I discovered a poor mouse caught in a sticky trap left by previous owners & was horrified to find a small frightened mouse still alive on it. Barbaric way to get rid of mice. Could not get the mouse off the sticky trap & was forced to let it suffer & die in the garbage. No need to be cruel - just catch & release into a wooded area. Bought more traps for my granddaughter & my neighbor as gifts. We don't have to live with mice & we can be kind by letting them run free in nature.

After months of trying everything else, captured the very first night with this!
For months I’d been trying everything to get rid of a mouse that took up residence in my car: scent deterrents, steel wool… Nothing worked.Got Motel Mouse, set with peanut butter in the evening, and the very next morning I already captured this little dude — in just one night! I’m kicking myself for not doing this earlier! Would have saved so much time, money, and frustration.I don’t review a ton of products, but I am beyond impressed by this so wanted to sing praise. Five stars and then some!

Worked a treat!
Ordered Wednesday; arrived Thursday morning; set up trap Thursday evening using peanut butter as bait, and literally within 10 minutes we heard a "snap" and there was our elusive mouse friend in the trap, unharmed. We released him some distance away. Very impressed with the effectiveness of these traps!

5 hours to catch.
Had a mouse in our small house. Setup the trap with peanut butter in the last place we had spotted it. 5 hours later a loud snap and a drive to the local park later and we are mouse free (hopefully). We highlyrecommend this product.
