SatcoCanopy Kit Black Fin 5" Dia. model number 90-198-SAT

I bought this intending to paint it with a hammered finish and it looks Fantastic, though the original finish was install-ready. The chandelier I'm hanging is about 50lbs but this will easily hold more. I was very impressed with the redundancy of the support system but it took me a bit to figure out how to piece it together. I've included a picture of how it's supposed to go together. The top nut should be tightened down snugly to prevent everything from loosening up. You should not be able to wiggle the bar that goes around the cross brace with your hand. !!WARNING!!- if hanging anything heavy, make SURE the electrical box is rated for it and isn't hanging with a single nail in a 2x4! I bought a box fan brace that spans the width of my rafters and is rated to hold 90 lbs of a static load. This canopy kit is rock solid on that brace and I am very happy with the quality.

I was looking for a light canopy to finish off this hanging lamp I made for over our dining table. I've built all the furniture in this room (except for chairs. I was doing the Mel Gibson routine in The Patriot, where he had a pile of broken chairs cause they just weren't right), and a canopy was the last thing I needed. They are actually pretty expensive depending what you're looking for. I was not looking to spend a lot, but wanted something other than just a plain flat circle. This one is perfect for the price, $10. It can be easily painted if you need it another color, but black worked for me. It fits right over a standard circular remodel electrical box, and comes with all you need to run wires through the crossbar, thru the canopy, and down to your fixture. I don't think you'll find one like this for $10 bucks anywhere else, I looked. Very easy to install. A great buy if you're needing one.

Item is well made. Mine was the black version and I was not pleased that it was a high gloss black. But I was going to paint it anyway so no issue for me. One thing to note is that the hollow threaded tube (that you feed the wires through) is larger in diameter than the 3/8" used in most ceiling fixtures (it's 1/2" I think). All the hardware supplied is the larger size. This makes it easier to work with, but if you need a part (such as a longer tube), you won't find it in most hardware stores.

The product picture shows matte black.This is glossy, and that isn't desirable to me.There are a bunch of parts. Instructions are needed. There are multiple options. I had one way of doing it without the threaded yoke provided.Also, the product page doesn't show the parts that come with it.

Nothing exciting - but well made, and good price compared to local home improvement stores. Does what it's supposed to do - and comes right to your door! Can't beat that!
