No go
I was super excited to give my 2 year old son this as a gift for Christmas because he loves bugs. Super disappointed, it doesn't suck up anything. We have tried everything and even tried flipping it upside down for it to just fall in... it works that way as far as "catching" the bug but it's not worth it at all. You literally have to touch the bug... My son is just frustrated with it at this point. It doesn't do its intended purpose at all.

Super cute frog that very gently sucks up bugs
Super cute frog that very gently sucks up bugs. I love that we can catch a bug and look at it with out mommy ever touching any. There are two chambers and you can change them out before catching an other bug. Each one can be pulled out and closed to further examine the bug through the magnifine glass on the top of it. Pretty cool contraption.

Great for bug-fearing kids
This product is great for kids who are afraid or skittish with bugs. Both my 2 year old and my 5 year old enjoy using it. It's great to be able to catch a bug and then observe it without having to necessarily touch it. The magnifying window allows for close up views too. It built confidence in my 2 year old who usually wants nothing to do with insects.

Great for tiny explorers
This is not only an engaging toy, but we love the cute design. It's really lightweight and the handle makes it easy for even tiny toddler hands to carry. We have a very curious child who loves exploring and being outdoors. This toy is a great learning tool to help little ones inspect and examine all kinds of critters.

Innovative Way to Explore Bugs
My 4 year old loved this the moment we took it out of the box- long before he even had bugs to suck into it. The size is perfect for small hands and it has a fun frog-tongue design. We found it best for sucking up already-dead bugs, but an older child will have more luck chasing live bugs around. There's a little door that slides open on the viewing capsule to release the bug back out, and it has air holes to help keep the bugs alive. The suction isn't super strong, but he was able to suck up dead bumble bees no problem.

No Bug is Safe
This is the cutest little bug vac. My little guy loves playing with it. The vacuum part works really good too. Bugs are definitely not safe around our house. When we take it to the park, everyone wants a turn. This is on my birthday gift list for the summer.

Brilliant, son loves it!
Would definitely recommend, very robust as it has been dropped by my son a few times and still works absolutely fine! Sucks up small bugs and handy to look at through the looking part with a handy magnifying circle to look closely at what has been caught.

Sucks up small bugs with ease. Doesn't like 1.2V Amazon Rechargable Batteries.
It does call for 1.5V batteries, so the fact it does not operate off the 5 dozen 1.2V I have laying around isn't a negative on the bug vac, I just didn't want to buy disposables. Oddly, it does work with my 1.2V Panasonic Rechargeables. I can't explain that one.The Bug Vac has rapidly sucked up ants, mosquitoes, and even a woodtick so far.The viewing window isn't easy for me to see the bugs in magnification, but my kids seem to like it a lot. Plus, this was a birthday present, so I had also purchased a small microscope with 2.5X zoom magnification. They place the Bug Vac clear bug capsule under the microscope and peer through the eyepiece at their captured specimen. My only qualm with it is, the specimen capsule door auto opens, when you slide it into the vacuum receptor under the frog's chin, so it can receive the sucked up bug, but it does not auto close. it isn't designed to auto close, so it isn't broken, it's just a feature that wasn't added. This isn't an issue with most insects, but the first time they suck up a spider, and pull out the specimen capsule, just to have the spider climb out and crawl up their arm (or my wife's arm) is going to be the day this otherwise great toy goes in the garbage. i think I'll suggest they don't vacuum up any spiders.

Safe and fun bug observations
My son loves this bug vacuum! It is easy for him to operate himself (just click the button to activate the vacuum). It has a gentle suction, so you can’t hurt yourself with it. You suck the little bug into a clear container where you can observe it. There is a second container included so you can watch two bugs at once. It’s a great gift for kids who already love bugs or those who are iffy about them but may learn to like bugs by being able to watch them without getting too close.
