Q: What size would be best for a 2016 ford focus sedan? thinking small, but everything says to get the larger size.

Go with the larges size. It accordions so the bigger it is the further down the window goes so you get more air movement. I have a 17 escape and thats what I did. These are pretty sturdy too.

I use these in my crewcab pickup to keep my german shepherd from jumping out when traveling slowly. They solved the problem. They work great.

Its like a tongue and groove so if your window fits in a slot on the top it will work

These are designed for car windows. When the window is down, they lock on the window's edge on the bottom and fit into the window's slot at the top. This makes them pretty secure in a car. You would not have the same secure fitting with a house window. They also only fill a narrow slot when expanded. There are locks for window screens sold on Amazon. Your determined dog might be trainable with a deterrent like granular Dog Mace or a Motion-Triggered PIR Sensor with alarms or flashes. Both available on Amazon. It might take a combination of things. Hope you can find something that works.
