Works, confusing instructions, questionable build quality.
There's a lot of confusion in these reviews about how this should be wired, and I don't blame them. But maybe my experience can help:The unit labels the input and key as thick/thin red wires, however these are nearly the same gauge and hard to tell apart. The unit I received was wired such that the KEY switch was in the middle of the connector, with the thinner input wires on one side and the thicker wired on other (see pictures)The input wire can also be distinguished from the key wire because the input should have a fuse on it.The instructions also make the wiring for the key wire slightly confusing, since it depicts the wire going to the load. This could confuse someone if they didn't know that key/ignition power is typically not switched, and is always-on straight from the power source. To turn the unit on for this unit required connecting the key wire to the battery positive, not the output of the unit.Given the quality control of these units I can't say for certainty that all units are even produced the same, so I can't guarantee that these steps will work for you, but this is just what worked for me.Build quality:The unit I received had something rattling in it when I got it. I took it apart and found a chunk of solder rolling around in the unit. And looking at the board inside showed some amateur soldering jobs inside (see pictures). So I am skeptical about the quality control between these units. The board itself takes up only about half of the box on the 72v version, with just a metal heatsink contacting one edge of the unit. So it's no surprise that these are getting hot for some people.

Small, simple to install
Using on a 48v street legal golf cart to supply 12v for lights.Installation=========1. Cut the harness off2. Connected the old harness from the old unit it replaced.3. Plugged into the golf cart.4. Stuck to the aluminum frame with double sided tape.Impression=========Much smaller and lighter than the failed DC-DC step down converted that it replaced. Plenty of power for headlights, taillights, turn signals, and side markers.I am very happy with my purchase and would buy this product again.

Dead short internally so it's draining the battery now
The wiring instructions are terrible -- wire sizes are too close to determine which black is correct. There is no difference in size between what they call "small" black and "larger" black.Even removing the "key on" lead won't remove the short.Yeah it puts out 12V. But with key off or disconnected it drains the main battery pack. They appear to have forgotten the diode in the circuit board.I had to do a brake job on my kart so it was out of service while this thing drained my batteries. And, I missed the return window. Great. Out $40 and nothing to show for it.Walk far away from this thing.
