Works well
Does exactly what it says it will. You have to be sure to drink a lot of water consistently for it to work. And sometimes need more than one a day. Great for postpartum needs. Using temporarily while my fissures/tears from labor heal. I have a sensitive stomach and can't take this without food.

Needed after surgery
Physical Therapist recommended Colace after Hubby had shoulder surgery. Between the surgery and the pain killers, he was slowing down and it was uncomfortable for him. Very gentle and worked well.

Safer than most stool softeners but relief is inconsistent
Being a sufferer of chronic constipation and its horrible side effects for most of my adult life, I have often turned to stool softeners and laxatives to help make bowel movements easier and less painful. Colace is one of the safer stool softeners when you buy it without the stimulant laxative. I needed something that was safe and reliable for every day use, and although this product is very gentle and did work well at times, other days I would still end up constipated - even after taking the maximum dose daily, drinking lots of water, getting exercise, and avoiding constipation-causing foods like cheese, red meat, white rice, etc. During one recent, very painful episode of constipation resulting in a hemorrhoid flare up, an Urgent Care nurse told me that while Colace is very safe, she suggested that I try Miralax powder for daily use. I can't explain just what a huge difference that made! Miralax made my bowel movements very soft, well-formed, and easy to pass consistently with no side effects. I then asked my colorectal surgeon if Miralax is safe and she said absolutely, that it is the safest laxative available and perfectly fine for every day use, so I gave up the Colace. My advice? If you have occasional constipation and need a stool softener that is safe to take every day and most of the time provides gentle relief, Colace is a good product. But if you suffer from frequent, painful constipation like me and need consistent results and a safe product, go with Miralax powder.
